Awarded to all those who had served in France and Belgium between 5 Aug 1914 and 22 Nov 1914. In 1919, a clasp, "5th Aug.-22nd Nov. 1914" (often referred to as the Mons clasp), was authorised for those who had actually been under fire during that period.
