Transcription SOUTHERN COMMAND HORSE SHOW
ANNUAL TWO DAY EVENT AT TIDWORTH
ENTRIES FEWER , BUT HIGH STANDARD CONTINUES
The sun shone brightly at the eleventh annual Southern Command horse show , held at the Tidworth arena , on Friday and Satur day . On both days there were large attend
ances .
Most of the events on Friday were confined to military classes , and much interest centred in the 2nd Cavalry Brigade horse show .
Entries this year totalled 550 , against 635 when the show was last held in 1934 , when As a result there were more double entries . of the gradually mechanisation of the cavalry units , there are now in the Southern Command some 2000 horses , while in 1934 there were 2500 horses . In the 2nd Cavalry Brigade at Tid worth there are now some 400 horses against 800 two years ago . Of the regiments of the Cavalry Brigade , one is completely mechanised , two are partially mechanised and one is un mechanised .

A few days prior to the show the events for the assault - at arms cup were decided , the 9th Queen's Royal Lancers being the winners with 85 points , having a lead of 42 points over the 15th / 19th King's Royal Hussars ( 43 points ) and of 43 points over the 3rd King's Own Hussars ( 42
points .

The 9th Lancers ' total points were 127 , with the 3rd King's Own Hussars second with 110 points and the 15th / 19th Hussars third with 73 points . The 3rd King's Own Hussars made a great effort to overhaul the ultimate winners in the events on Friday , securing 68 points to the 9th Lancers ' 42. SOUTHERN COMMAND
HORSE SHOW
A DOUBLE FOR MAJOR
DUDGEON
1936 .
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT TIDWORTH , MAY 2 The second day of the eleventh Southern Command Horse Show held in the Tattoo arena at Tidworth to - day , had an even greater attendance than the first . A more attractive site for such a show could not be found , with its enclosure and splendid seating accommodation .
So large was the entry in the Handy Hunter competition that it needed an eliminating class this morning , the pick of the entries being seen in the ring this afternoon .
The performance of com petitors in the Continental jumping yester day , when nine competitors , including Lady Wright's entry , had clear rounds , led spectators to expect a high standard in the open jumping , particularly since the pick of the mounts which had a clear round in the Continental event were entered in the open competition .
The open jumping was won by Major J. H. Dudgeon , The Royal Scots Greys , on Goblet , with a faultless round ; S.S.M.R.I. Waymarsh , 3rd The King's Own Hussars , on Bobby , and the Riding Establishment , Woolwich , with Gaydon , tied for second place with one fault . In the run - off Bobby took second place with half a fault . The Riding Establishment , Wool wich , were placed fourth with Hornet ( one and a half fault after the run - off ) . Goblet made her success a double when she won the Handy Hunter Major Dudgeon
competition , and received many congratulations .
Colonel F. B. Hurndall and Major G. H. Fanshawe , of The Queen's Bays , were among the judges in the polo pony classes , for which the entry was excellent . The children's pony classes , too , were well supported , and the little riders made an attractive picture as they cantered round the ring .
The following results were declared : LIGHTWEIGHT POLO PONIES . - 1 . Lieutenant Sir Douglas Scott , 3rd Hussars , Coach Fare ; 2 , Captain G. W. C. Draffen , 2nd Bays , Coal Box ; 3 , Mr. J. P. D. Bott , Oakmont ( Berks ) , Vintage Wine .

1936
Next month they'll try to bring Polo Cham pionship back from the States : Captain Prior - Palmer and Hesbeth Hughes , British International players
The parade through the Brandenburg Gate was led by Gen. von Witzleben ; the general commanding the Third Army Corps , mounted on a charger . Behind came de tachments provided by the army which , as the senior service in Germany , led the way . Cavalry , even in plain field grey uni forms , still raises more popular enthusiasm than the grim and efficient mechanised units . The loudest cheer of all was re served for the kettle drummer of the 9th Cavalry Regiment , a man with huge turned - up moustaches like those of the ex Kaiser , who brandishing his drum sticks and guiding his horse with his spurs alone turned a full circle in front of Herr Hitler while moving at a hand gallop .
