5 & 6 NOEL EDWARDES . " I He has been named by one of our International players as " a Champion " , and he must have been 6 feet tall . Although he was classed at a nine " handicap man , doubt that there was a better player in his time . When I watched our winning match , for the Inter national Series , on Long Island , U.S.A. , in 1914 , I saw Dev . Milburn at his best . Noel was as good as this great player and a great horseman . I remember seeing him jump a five - barred gate , on a " 14.2 hand " pony , when hounds were running , in the " Duke's Country " . Noel was killed serving with the Regiment in 1915 . |
