I have heard that my old Regiment the 9th Lancers is having a drive
to get more recruits and I would very much like to be associated with this effort . To me the ' 9th Lancers ' is the most efficient and the happiest regiment in the whole British Army . I would certainly recommend it to any young man about to join up . Indeed , I consider he will be a lucky lad if he joins the 9th .

I well remember the day when I first arrived with the 9th in Italy . The regiment was resting after a titanic chase after the Germans which took them about 40 miles in a single day . I was one of a new draft . Yet the first person to greet us was the Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Price . his words of welcome . job to do .
I well recall
He told us how glad he was to see us and how we had a He said we were now members of his team , and as he shook hands with each of us we felt at last we were really wanted . I believe it is this emphasis on teamwork that makes the 9th Lancers such a happy regiment . The friendships I made in those far off days , nearly 14 years ago , have endured and I often meet many of my old pals in my travels on football duty up and down the country .
Probably the best enjoyment I had in the 9th was the facilities we had for taking part in sport . Football of course was always my first love . Remember when the Medical Officer said we were not to play in the afternoon , because so many of the lads had suffered from sunstroke in the blazing Italian summer sunshine ? We had a league formed , and the interest was so high that the lads agreed to play before breakfast at 6.30 a . m . We sure were keen on our football . Although I played for the H. Q. team , I was asked to referee every morning match . I wasn't too happy about the prospect , but at least it was keeping me fit :
I do hope that as many of you lads who are about to join the Army will read this letter , so that you will have an idea what life is like in the 9th Lancers . Nowhere in the Services will you find the same ' brotherhood ' and the same team spirit as you will in the 9th Lancers . I look forward to seeing many of you at the annual reunion together with the ' old Sweats ' .
With every good wish .
