After dinner the drawing of tween Bulkley and Langley the former gained first the heats " took place , and , curiously enough spear , which was challenged by Langley , who also speared immediately afterwards . On inspection Messrs . Tully , Langley and Younghusband were blood was found on Bulkley's spear and the heat " drawn together twice , and Messrs . Chance and awarded to him . The question was then raised as Bulkley the same . The draw for the Pony Cup to whether Bulkley had speared the pig across resulted in Messrs . Tully , Langley and Bulkley Langley's horse when the latter was in possession having to oppose each other , while Messrs . of the pig ; but the matter , being referred to the Younghusband , Thatcher and Jardine made up unjire , was decided in Mr. Bulkley's favour . THE GUZERAT PIG - STICKING MEET .

short space of time , the other " heat " was started after a fair boar , which well tested the merits of the competitors , and first spear was gained by Dr. Tully on his horse Beauty . Barely quarter of an hour had elapsed , when Bulkley and Chance were again despatched after a crafty boar which had more than once broken back through the line of beaters , but eventually was made to face the open country . The riders started rather wide apart , and Chance appeared to have an opportunity of spearing , but , failing to take advan tage of it , let in Bulkley , who scored another win . While this " heat " was being decided , Messrs . Langley , Younghusband and Tally were started after what proved to be a very fast and jinking sow , the first named scoring a clever win , after which the horses were sent home and the competi tion for the Pony Cup was commenced .
Messrs . Youngbusband , Thatcher and Jardine were the first to start after a fair boar , who suc ceeded in making good his point and getting into
some high rushes , where for a time he was lost .
He was , however , shortly afterwards seen
" mak
ing tracks " some 400 yards the other side of the rushes , and Messrs . Thatcher and Younghusband raced neck and neck for the spear , Jardine's pony refusing to try his best owing to a sowar riding too close behind . This heat resulted in Thatcher gaining the spear which entitled him to ride in the final heat . For the other heat a nice boar broke well in front of the line of beaters , and the word to ride was at once given , when Bulkley - whose
pony had the legs of the other two - was soon close
on to the pig , which jinked suddenly throwing him
out and letting up Tully and Langley .
Another
jink , however , let up Bulkley again and rather threw out Tally , but he nicked in again at once ,
and then all three seemed to have an equal chance of success . Bulkley's pony , however , again forged ahead and enabled his owner to spear the boat . Tully , who speared almost immediately after wards , challenged the spear , and Bulkley , instead of stopping and showing the blood on his spear to the umpire , rode on and speared the pig again more than once , thereby forfeiting his claim to first spear and losing the heat . " The final now rested between Tully and Thatcher , and very soon
a fine boar ( which turned out to be the best killed
of
at the meeting ) was started and the word given to ride . The ponies were pretty evenly matched for speed , but Tully's pony seemed the more handy , Thatcher going wide of the boar , which turned and charged Tully before it had been speared once . Here Tully missed a grand opportunity scoring , but , cleverly handling his pony , soon got on to the boar again and speared before Thatcher could quite get up , thus winning the Pony Cup for the third year in succession . This finished the business of the day , the final for the Null Cup being left over for the next day , Bulkley having two chances to Messrs . Tully and Langley's one . All now started after a large sounder of pig , which contained more than one boar , when sud denly , after going but a very short distance , Tully's pony put a foot wrong and came down on his head , throwing his rider heavily to the ground . No one seems quite to know what happened afterwards , but the pony picked himself up and galloped off home , and when Younghusband got up to Tully , he found him unconscious and much cut about
the face . Although restoratives were close at hand , some time elapsed before the sporting hono rary secretary regained consciousness , when he was sent home on a charpoy in charge of some faithful attendant as he would not bear of any of the pig stickers accompanying him home , but entreated all
to continue the sport , the result being that , before
a move was made for tiffin , the party succeeded
in killing two more boars , making a total of seven
killed by mid - day . About 4 p.m. a fresh start was
made , and five more boar were killed before the
party relinquished sport for the day and returned
to Bagodra .
