BEFORE the meeting of 1923 held this week , the last occasion on which the Guzerat Cup was competed for was in 1914. The Guzerat Cup meeting , like many other sport ing events , had been dropped since the beginn ing of " The War . " It has happily been revived this year owing to the keenness of His Highness the Gaek war of Baroda and other Western India sportsmen . His Highness kindly gave the Committee permission to run the Cup Meeting over his territory at Bhandu near Mehsana in the Kadi district . He also kindly lent all the camp equipment used at the meeting and a most imposing and comfortable camp was laid out un ler a large grove of mango trees close to Bhandu village . The arrangements for this camp were very capably organised by Major Nimbalkar of Baroda . A new and very acceptable trophy has this year been offered by His Highness the Gaekwar for a Point - to - Point Race for horses and riders competing in the Guzerat Cup , The country over which the Guzerat Cup is run is unique in pigsticking countries . It consists of flat , sandy fields enclosed by cactus fences and strips of babul jungle , that ability as a performer over jumps is a most necessary addition to the ordinary attributes of a hoghunter . 80 The competitors arrived on Sunday , the 8th instant , and after dinner in camp a committee was elected in accordance with the rules governing the competition : President : The Thakore Sahib of Kato san ; Members : Major C.
