H.M. THE KING'S CUP .
This cup ( six chukkers - open ) was presented by H.M. King Fuad on the occasion of the visit to Egypt of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales ( in 1922 ) , and is a fine example of the goldsmith's art .
On Monday last , the 12th Royal Lancers met and defeated a selected side from the Gezira Sporting Club to the tune of 11 goals to 4 thus winning the trophy for the third year in succes sion . Not for some considerable time have more spectators been seen on the club ground , every available parking space being utilized , and the applause at times being more like that at a foot ball match than at a polo tournament .
D
Immediately from the off , the club side attack ed , Capt . Radford making one of his usual spirit ed efforts , but Mr. Porter , almost from his own goal - line , obtained possession and raced away to score a very spectacular goal , which deserved all the applause which was forthcoming ; as also did the second goal scored by Mr. Kidston almost at the end of the chukker . The play in the second chukker was very fast , each goal being visited in turn , but the 12th went further ahead through Mr. Kidston and Capt . Arkwright , Capt . Radford scoring for the club in the 7th minute of the chukker . The third period was very even , mid field play being the order for most of the time , and the chukker had almost finished when Mr. Kidston commenced an attack from which Capt . Arkwright scored from a very acute angle . The score was now 5-1 .
At the close the cup was presented to the win
ning captain ( Lt. - Col . J.W. Hornby ) by Sir Ah
med Hassanein Bey . The King's representative
had witnessed the whole of the play and , judging
by his hearty handshakes to each member of the
The club played up magnificently now and it was early on in the fourth period that Brig . Brooke and Major Gladstone scored , the latter goal being a grand individual effort . It looked
now as though the result was going to be very open , but Mr. Kidston scored No. 6 for the Lan cers just on time . The Lancers now were properly on their merits and better polo than the fifth chukker would be hard to find , each player putt ing all in he knew . The ponies also played excep tionally well . Scorers in order were Mr. Kidston , Mr. Porter , Cap . Arkwright and Mr. Kidston , making the score 10-3 . The final chukker was , like the third , even , good runs the whole length of the field being witnessed from the first . Capt . Radford scored for the club , but this was im mediately neutralized by Mr. Kidston , who finish ed a fine afternoon by scoring his side's eleventh
goal from almost on the boards .

POLO A.S.C. JUNE TOURNAMENT . 12th Lancers Win Halim Cup . The June tournament at Alexandria concluded on Wednesday , the 21st inst . , with two parti culariy good matches . In the first the 12th Lan cers , conceding half - a - goal to the King's Dragoon Guards , were beaten alter an exciting game by 2 1/2 goals to 2 , and in the second match the Coldstream Guards beat the Alexandria " A " by 4 goals to 1. The Lancers , Dragoons , and Cold streams all finished on equal terms with three wins and a loss each to their credit , but the Lancers won the Halim Cup on a superior goal average . The winners had shown very consistent form during the whole tournament and their los ing to the K.D.G.'s was somewhat in the nature . of a surprise as the Dragoons had not previously , been playing up to their handicap .. The keenness displayed by the Coldstream Guards thoroughly warranted their three wins . Of the other games during the tournament , the 12th Lancers v . Alex andria " A " and the K.D.G.'s v . Alexandria " A " were close and hard - fought matches , the local scratch team being just beaten in each case . The handsome Halim Cup and smaller trophies were presented to the 12th Lancers by Mrs. Mont
gomery .
