A good start was effected , but after going half the distance the result , bar accident , looked a moral for Churston , although Bonfire would have made a better race of it had he not bungled at the last fence . How ever , Churston landed home easily by ten lengths ; about six lengths dividing second and third . At the conclusion of the race about 200 sat down to a splendid luncheon , provided by the officers , in a large marquee situated in a field near the winning post , at the village of Crayke , at the conclusion of which the officers were heartily cheered . We may add that the first point - to point regimental steeple chase in this district was pro moted by this regiment in 1873 , when Major Wetherall's Jumping Moses won . Mr. E. Lycett Green , MF.H. , York and Ainsty , officiated as starter , and Mejor Maun sell as judge .
