" Jones " Huntiman to the Cheshire Hounds Favourite DAM . Singwell 23 " " ****** WHELPED May 1 Feb. 12 I Wanton ........ April 26 his Royal Highness PRINCE ALBERT VICTOR AND YORK . H.R.H. TO JOIN THE 9TH LANCERS . We are glad to state on the best authority that it has been definitely arranged that A.B.H. Prince Albert Vietor will shortly join the 9th ( Queen's Royal ) Lancers at present quartered in the York Cavalry barracks , and under the command of Lieut . - Oolonel the Hon , H , Legge . His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge yesterday visited York , and inspected the troops stationed in this city . During his visit announced ( the rumour of which we published yesterday ) , that Prace Albert Victor will abortly join the 9th Lancera for six or seven months , and that consequently the removal of the regiment from York would be deferred for another year , According to the present arrangemente the Prince will join the regiment on or about the 24th of October , and we believe he will be right loyally welcomed not only by Colonel Legg and the officers of the regiment , but also by the citizens of York , who have on every occasion manifested their loyalty to the Queen , the Prince and Press of Wales , and every member of the Royal Family who have honoured the city with their presence . York Herald . 87 WE are most happy to be able to give sub stance and reality to the rumour respecting his Royal Highness Prince ALBERT VICTOR , to which reference was made in our columns yesterday . The loyal oitizens of York will welcome him with as much effusion and sincerity 88 SHAKESPEARE makes Queen MARGARET receive King HENRY VI . , when she exolaims " Welcome , my lord , to this brave town of York . " The PRINCE is not new to the city , as he visited its principal points of interest some years ago , and perhaps it is partly to the impressions he then formed of the city and its historio monu ments , that we owe the honour he is about to confer upon us by taking up his resi dence here for several months . It is evident that some high oompliment is intended to be paid to York , or the departure of the 9th Lanoers , to which regiment His ROYAL HIGHNESS is to be attached , would not have been delayed for the convenience of the PRINCE , as clearly appears to have been the case . A significant compliment is also being paid to the admirable regiment , which has been so thoroughly popular with all classes during its stay in the City . The 9th Lancers will be delighted to remain a little longer in York , and to be honoured by oonnection with so promising a member of the Royal Family . We do not think the PRINCE oould have been attached to a Cavalry Regiment more likely to afford him a thorough insight into all that horsemen can do in the oamp , the field , and the grove.Apart from the instruction his Royal Highness is likely to receive in military duties , we are convinced that his stay in York will be made as agreeable as possible . No efforts will be spared by the oivic authorities to indicate their sense of the compliment which is to be paid to a city with so many Royal traditions , and we are encouraged to hope that shortly after the termination of PRINCE ALBERT VICTOR's too brief residence amongst us we may be gratified to learn that it has pleased her Majesty the Queen to commemorate the visit by reviving and conferring upon her grandson the historic title of the DUKE of YORK . |
