CRAWLEY AND HORSHAM HUNT POINT TO - POINT RACES .
The annual Point - to - point races in connection with the Crawley and Horsham Hunt took place at Perry lands , West Grinstead , yesterday . The weather was beautifully fine , and there was a very large attendance of the neighbouring gentry also of the tenant farmers in the Hunt country . and Previous to the programme being proceeded with a capital luncheon was provided , to which some 300 tenant farmers and others sat down . Mr. C. B , Godman , the popular Master of the Hunt , occupied the chair , and was supported , among others , by Mr. Forrester Britten , Colonel Clifton Brown , Mr. E. Carew Gibson , the Rev. R. B. Knatchbull - Hugessen , Lieutenant Colonel Lyon , Mr. R. P. Sheldon , Mr. A. F. Waterhouse , Mr. E. T. Norris , Mr. R. F. Synge , Mr. C. J. Fletcher , Mr. S. R. Clarke , Mr , A. Stanford , & c . - After luncheon the loyal toast was enthusiastically pledged on the initiation of the Chairman . Mr. Godman also pro . posed the health of the tenant farmers in the Hunt country , and took the opportunity of thanking them for their consideration towards the members of the Hunt . They were all sorry that farming was not more satisfactory than it was at present , and hoped things would change for the better . He was pleased , in the name of the Committee , to see so many of them pre sent , and also glad that there was a ready response with subscriptions by the gentlemen in the neighbour hood when it was known that they wished to give this luncheon . - Mr. Stanford briefly replied , expressing the hope that the next season's hunting would be a better one . The Chairman acknowledged the compliment , and the programme was then procecded with . It may be added that the stewards of the meeting were the Duke of Norfolk , the Duke of Richmond and Gordon , the Earl of March , Lord Leconfield , Sir C. Raymond Burrell , Bart . , the Hon . C. Brand , and Mr. Charles Goring . General Godman , Mr. C. B. Godman , and Mr. Forrester Britten formed the Commitee ; and Colonel Lyon acted as starter and judge . Details :

Mr. R. W. Wickham's Marigold was entered , but did not run . Captain Colvin made the running for the greater part of the course , but Mr. Courage pulled np well , and brought Polly past the post six lengths ahead . Mr. Guest came a cropper .

There were fourteen entries , but only eight faced the starter . Storrington maintained a good lead during most of the race , but in the last half n.ile Harlequin made the pare and came with several lengths to the good . Mr. Bell and Mr. Jee came down at the last hurdle , the latter slightly injuring his face .

There were eleven entries , but only five pat in an appear . ance . All refused the first hurdle . In the last half - mile Sambo was leading easily and came down the last hill at a great pac , but Chevalet gradually gained upon him and the two went over the last hurdle together , Mr. Naillard bringing in Chevalet to the first position by a longth . An objection was , however , taken by Mr. Dudney that the others had not got all the course . Eventually the decision was upheld and the result was declared as above .

9th LANCERS POINT - TO - POINT
STEEPLE.CHASE .
There was a large and fashionable assemblage at this annual race yesterday , which took place in the East Berks country , starting from Farley Hill , Shinfield , and finishing at Messrs Lanes ' farm , near Wokingham , a distance of nearly four miles . The course , though heavy in places , was voted an exceedingly good one , whilst the elements were all that could be desired . Vere Alfrey officiated as judge , and the starter was Mr William Simmonds . Details :

The Petworth contingent of the Brighton

31 A Troop of the Middlesex Yeomanry had a march out yesterday from Petworth to Mid hurst , the route taken being via Halfway Bridge and Cowdray Park . Captain Rawson was in command , the rest of the contingent consisting of Sergeant - Major Poole ( Brighton ) , Sergeant Major Instructor Robinson , Corporal W. Dawtrey , and about fifteen others . After staying at Midhurst a short time , they returned to Pitshill , the lovely country seat of Lieutenant Colonel W. Kenyon Mitford , Colonel command ing the 1st Yeomanry Brigade , and hospitably entertained to luncheon by him . Colonel Mitford was in full uniform , and the Adjutant , Captain Colvin , was also present . The march out resulted in two recruits being added to the Troop .

After the ceremony a reception was held at 3 , Carlton House Terrace . The large drawing - rooin , panelled in old gold brocade , was decorated with palms and groups of golden orchids , and the fireplace was banked up with foliage . tables in the refreshment room the flowers were - in On the compliment to the bride's Christian name - entirely lilies , with begonia leaves ; and on the central table was a large pyramid of orange flowers , interspersed with little oranges , and rising from a base of lily - of the - valley .
Later in the afternoon the Duchess of Marlborough and Lord William Beresford left for Deepdene . The bride's travelling gown was of a charming shade of faint pinky heliotrope cloth , made with sleeves and yoke of Venetian bocade , on which silver - grey velvet flowers were thrown up from the heliotrope ground . The Rubens sleeves had cuffs of fine Point d'Alençon lace , and the neck was softened with the same . The Charles X. page mantle was of heliotrope cloth , lined with the Venetian brocade , and the straw toque was of the same colour and trimmed with groups of gar . denias and a panache of black plumes .
