On Thursday afternoon , amid beautiful sunshine and the most pleasant surroundings , the marriage of Captain Forrester Colvin , 9th Lancers , and the Hon . Isabel K. M Clintock , eldest daughter of the Right Hon . Lord Rathdonnell , took place in the pretty and well - kept sacred edifice - Drumcar Parish Church , which stands at a short distance from Drumcar House , the County Louth residence of the Rathdonnell family . Although a com paratively recent bereavement in the bride's family curtailed some of the outward joyous demonstrations usual on such happy occasions , yet the marriage of a daughter of the popular House of M Clintock could not fail to excite intense interest in the neighbourhood of Drumear , where Lord Rath donnell and his family have spent so much of their time since his lordship succeeded to the title . Lord Rathdonnell happily follows the example of his uncle in being a resident Irish landlord , and a landlord who takes a personal and practical interest in his tenantry and every person employed on his properties in Louth and Carlow . It may not be out of place to note , in connection with the happy marriage of a daughter of the house of M'Clintock , hat not only are evictions unknown on the Pramcar estate , but as far as our memory serves , ot even one application has been sent in by a enant requiring the fixing of a judicial rent . We hust therefore assume that the tenants believe they are paying only fair rents , and that the lord of the soil recognizes the old , but never - out - of - date motto ofLive and let live . " It was , therefore , Do surprise to find that high holiday prevailed in ' Drumear and vicinity , in view of the interesting event of the day . Over the several entrance gates of the demesne there were flags displayed , and festoona of flowers , with coloured banner scrolls ,. bearing good wishes for the happy pair , and over the lycht gate of the Church the same ornament ation was displayed with a scroll bearing the words 4 May peace and happiness attend you . " From the lycht gate to the porch of the Church an elegantly constructed arcade was erected , the covering being of cherry and white striped awning , the supports being enwreathed with evergreens and . flowers , and the footpath draped in scarlet cloth . In the interior of the Church there was a wealth of flowers , chandeliers and windows being profusely wreathed ; while within the chancel and at the chancel steps , were splendid collections of the choicest flowers , beautiful arum lilies and carna tions most prevailing . Shortly after 12 o'clock Captain Colvin entered . the church , accompanied by his brother , Mr R. B. Colvin , who attended as best man . Captain . Colvin is in the prime of life , apparently not more than thirty , and is the personification of a soldier and a gentleman . Many of our local readers doubtless remember him when the 9th Lancers . were stationed here , about two years ago . He was well known with the meets of the Harriers , rode his own horses at the regimental races , and was one of the 9th Lancers ' heroes in the polo field . Shortly afterwards the bridal procession appeared , and , with the clergy in attendance , took up a position just within the porch . The bridal procession included four bridesmaids -- the Hon . Mary and Pauline M'Clintock - Bunbury , sisters of the bride , and Miss Helen and Miss Grace Bruen , relatives of Lady Rathdonnell . The bridesmaids ' dresses were of white Indian muslin , with Marie Antoinette fichus , trimmed with Mechlin lace , and black picture hats . Each bridesmaid also wore two swallow pearl brooches , connected with pearl and gold chains , presents of the bridegroom . There were also two pages Masters Art Bruen ant Pierce Butler . gallant lads were attired in pink and white satin costumes , with short cavalier cloaks , and carried wands and baskets of white flowers . These At 12.30 the carriage containing the bride arrived at the church gate , to which she was accompanied by her mother , Lady Rathdonnell , who then consigned her to her father , Lord Rath donnell . The bride's costume was simple in out line , but faultless in material and make , and she wore the traditional coronal of orange blossoms , with the a pendant veil glistening like silver tissue , and she carried in her hand a bouquet of beautiful carnations The bride is youthful in slender years , and graceful in figure , with beautiful fair hair , and a sweetly interesting face . As she moved towards the chancel steps , leaning on her father's arın , a bridal procession was formed , led by the two officiating clergymen , and the choir sang * Deus Misereatur " ( Psalm 1xvii ) , taken from Barnby's chant , Miss Wilkinson , Castlebellingham , playing the accompaniment . The marriage service , which was semi - choral , was rendered in two stages , At as is the practice in many English churches . the chancel steps the bridal party were received by the clergymen . Here the Contract portion of the service took place , conducted by the Rev. F. C. M'Clintock , rector of Drumcar , and cousin of the bride , asssisted by the Rev. F. B. Waltham , rector of Waltham Abbey - the bridegroom's parish . The first portion of the service terminated , the bride and bridegroom then approached the communion rails , where the remainder of the service was gone through . The marriage service concluded , the bridal party left the church to the music of Barnby's wedding anthem , O , perfect love . " A short walk to Drumcar House and then the wedding party partook of the wedding breakfast , after which the happy pair , amid the heartiest expres sions of good wishes and showers of rice , left for Dunleer Railway Station en route for the North of Ireland . In the evening the employès of the estate were entertained at dinner by Lord and Lady Rathdonnell , and we understand similar festivities took place at Lisnaveagh , the County Carlow estate . taste . The wedding presents were very numerous , costly , and selected apparently with appropriate . The drawing - room of Drumear House seemed literally ablaze , the four sides being filled with jewellery and plate . Amongst these gifts , apparently most valued by Lord and Lady Rath donnell , were a magnificent silver lamp , a present from the County Louth tenantry ; a very handsome silver salver from the servants and labourers of Drumcar , and a beautiful pair of silver candlesticks from the employés at Lisnaveagh .
