SUFFOLK HUNT BALL AT COLCHESTER .
This year the annual ball of the Essex and Suffolk Hunt was held at Colchester , the place selected being the large Drill Hall , which on Thursday night presented a most gay and festive appearance . The decorations , which had been carried out by Mr.
W. R. Simkin , of North Hill , were exceedingly
over
effective . The hall was draped , above the panelled dado , with alternate bars of white and scarlet , ivy leaves forming a dado rail , and tendrils of ivy shoot ing out from this climbed gracefully up the walls . A frieze Was formed completely round the hall by festoons of greene , while at close intervals were hung trophies of the hunt , and quaint mirrors of antique pattern . From the roof depended a liberal sprink ling of Union - jacks , and the whole appearance was that of brightuess and warmth , without gaudiness . The balcony and the space beneath it were fitted up with lounge furniture , and served as withdrawing rooms , the front of the balcony being festooned with

Friday Wood , Donyland Wood , and the other small coverts in that direction were subsequently drawn blank . So ended a day which , by the number of foxes found in so small a space , should have been a good one , but the field , and the field only , were responsible for the results .
