Emblematical of the Craft of the Company as exerci - ed in the year 1670 ( the date of their Incorporation ) ; shewing the manufacture of ancient lanterns with the " formers , " and " hollowing blocks " of the period , and lamps ; the use of sheets of horn instead of glass ( which was not used until a later period for this purpose ) , and also the mong of guards , sieves , & c . , in wire work , by craftsmen of the Company , in their costumes of the time of Charles II . The light ship lantern surmounting the pole to the middle of the car is a copy of one in use in 1670. The drapery of the Car - black and gold - displays the colours of the Company , and the small banners give the mottoes used by the Company at different periods ; the full style of the Company , according to its Charter , and the date of its incorporation , 29th December , 1670. The shields of arms are those of the City of London , the Company , and its present Master , LIEUT . COLONEL LAMBERT .
The Car is drawn by Six Horses , led by Carters in the Costumes of the Period .

The base of the Car represents a Basket of Flowers . From the centre of the Car rises Temple , with the figure of " Flora " bereath . In the front is placed a figure representing the Art of Gardening , and another figure , emblematical of Renown , proclaiming the triumph of Horticulture . Immediately behind a cancpy stands a Gardener , spade in hand , typical of Labour ; and from the rear of the Car springs a Nymph
