Shah or no Shah , those present saw a real good game ; but as this week is , par excellence , that devoted to the Inter - Regimental contest , my remarks must perforce be brief - briefer than I could wish , or than the game deserves . The 9th now think that the ball shows too much affection for their terri tory , and so Captain Lamont and Captain Jenner sweep it down , Captain Jenner hitting behind at the stables end . Time fails me to DOOKER . animals are worth looking at by any one in want of a pony . One more remark and then I must give a short precis of the game between the 9th Lancers and the 13th Hussars . A new form of goal post appeared on the ground to - day , and one which should thin would favourably commend itself to every poloist . The posts consist of hollow cylinders of papier mâché , and are , I believe , the invention of Lord Harrington . Not being solid , of course they give , and even if knocked over or broken , which latter seems almost impossible , there are no splinters to do harm to man or beast , whilst the absence of solidity prevents any harm from concussion . How a 9th Un the hit off Captain Jenner and Captain Little run the ball up in fine style and some quick play follows - as the 10th reverse the order of things - Captain Allsopp and Mr. Onslow both see an opening , and make for the ball ; in the Then the 10th bear back the tide of war , and Captain confusion neither is aware of his comrade's intention till the Fisher again exhibits his skill , for the ball is carried well last moment , when Captain Allsopp's shout of " All right , I up past the lawn . Neither are going fast , and both do their best to ries the ball down , Captain Colvin backs him , doing good avoid a collisicn . It is unavoidable , however . Captain the chest of Captain Allsopp's pony against the flank of Mr. Allsopp and Captain Fisher are intent on defeating Onslow's ; over rolls the latter , whilst the former , though him , however . Rapidly they close in , and with such he tries to stop , is unable to do so , and poising himself for good effect , that the 9th man is ridden off , and cannot a moment on his forelegs , describes a well , not an entrancing succeed in getting the hit that might have proved but - graceful parabola in the air over his prostrate stable victorious . But now " time is on the wing . Captain Jenner and Captain 10th , and they carry the ball up , then back it goes . Captain Little have their weapons knocked out of their hands , and Allsopp misses the ball ; Captain Fisher comes to his rescue , the 10th rush the ball down to the stables goal .
