Year 2013
Transcription REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) 39
Catering Department
he beginning of the year saw the 9/12 chefs re-
turn to work after a well deserved Christmas
break; as always, we had to hit the ground running.
Shortly after returning to work the Regiment de-
ployed on Ex Lion Sun; three chefs deployed to
provide Catering support to the Regiment on this
three week exercise which was conducted in Cyprus.
Often working long hours in searing heat the chefs
managed to provide an outstanding level of food
production and even had time to participate in some
adventure training.
Whilst the three chefs deployed in Cyprus were enjoying their
time in the sun, the remaining chefs who were left behind con-
tinued with the day to day routine ofproviding catering support
in Glyn Hughes and both of the 9/12 Royal Lancers messes.
March saw the start of a busy MST period for both the Regiment
and the chefs again deploying to provide catering support not
only to the Regiment but also to the various other Regiments
who were also conducting MST
After a well deserved Easter break the chefs and were once again
been deployed out on the ground; Cpl Phagami deployed exter-
nally from the Regiment to Kenya and I’te Berry was deployed
to Sennelager to support CTS training. The remainder of the
chefs conducted their ARB in readiness for deployment on
Op Herrick 19 as well as continuing to support the Regiment in
their MST training.
After returning from summer leave there was a change around
within the catering department; Sgt Pickard left the Regiment
on promotion to SSgt and she was replaced by Sgt Marc Bridges.
Unfortunately for Sgt Bridges he was not in station long (about
5 days) before he deployed with the rest of the 9/ 12 chefs in sup-
port of the FTX. They were split in a number of locations often

working extremely long hours in arduous and test-
ing conditions.
Upon the chef’s return to Hohne in early Septem-
ber, LCpl Berry and Pte Dunn both deployed on OP
HERRICK 19 under the direction ofthe BCWO 7X;
they conducted their RSOI training and subsequent-
ly deployed out on the ground to provide catering
support in a FOB.
Finally we arrived at one of the busiest times in the
catering calendar.... Christmas. Functions Christ-
mas cake competitions, as well as the provision of
Christmas dinners, sees the chefs still working flat out, As the
UCM of 9/ 12 Royal Lancers I am extremely proud to say that
we did very well in this years Christmas cake competition. Af-
ter been volen-told to produce a cake, Cpl Errington set about
the task with gusto, and all his effort paid off; not only did Cpl
Errington win the Brigade competition, he also managed to win
the Divisional competition, ingenuity, originality and technical
skill were evident in his outstanding interpretation of the nativ-
ity scene. We all very much enjoyed Christmas leave and being
able to recharge our batteries, ready for the very busy schedule
ahead of us in the New Year.
The first few months of this year passed in a blur, with the nor-
mal pattern of life proceeding. We’ve continued to provide sup-
port to the ROG and are busy looking ahead to plan the catering
event of the year 7 a full regimental dinner in France in Au-
gust! Hopefully next year’s journal will be full of reports of our
success.
