Dragoons then serving in Italy. Thanks to the advocacy of

Colonel of the Regiment, the Commanding Ofiicer, Major
Searby, Lt Monckton and Lt Duda — an attached Australian
officer — assembled in the Piazza of St Peters on 28th Augusti
They were presented to His Holiness by Lord Monckton
during a public audience. Pope John, who was presented with

Building on its return to regimental polo in the previous year
the Regiment was able to field a better trained team in 1984
although match practice was always a problem. It was the
same team, with the exception of 2j’Lt Hercock replacing Zth
Boughey, and it reached the semi-finals of the Inter—regimental
Competition. It was defeated in the Loser Final 5—4 by the
Scots Dragoon Guards. In the Captains’ and Subalterns’ Com-

Cargo” went on to win in 1985 and 1986.
The skiers kept going and for the first time for a number of

Randell and Thomas won a place in the Army Championship
