sented at Tidworth on 23rd Iuly 1960, and the 12th Lancers’
Guidon, presented at Wolfenbuttel on 5th September 1958,
were carried by TQMS Jones and SSM Murphy respectively
and the escort, consisting of SQMS Rycroft and Sergeant
Purves, was under command ofRSM Mitchell The appearance
of Her Majesty’s Rolls Royce was greeted by a great cheer from
the children who enthusiastically waved their small red and
yellow regimental flags. After the inspection the Regiment
formed three sides of a square, The new Guidon, carried by
RQMS Tebay, was uncased by the Regimental Quartermaster,
Maior Paton, and laid on the pile of drums for the service of
consecration conducted by the Chaplain General, the Ven—
erable Archdeacon PMallett. At the conclusion of the service
Major Paton handed the Guidon to Her Majesty who returned
it to RQMS Tebay. She then went back to the dais and
addressed the Regiment. A copy of the Royal Address and the
Commanding Oificer’s reply is at pages . The Guidon
was then trooped through the ranks escorted by Not 1 Guard
(Major Burgess) and this was followed by a regimental march
past in quick and slow time. The parade ended with an advance
in review order and a final Royal Salute. Having marched off
Brigadier Sir Christopher Peto introduced Her Majesty to the
Old Comrades amongst whom were SSM Taylor and Colour
Sergeant Cordell from Chelsea Hospital.
The excellence of the parade was equalled by the scale of
entertainment which followed it. Thirty-seven cooks, under
Mr Wyper, provided luncheon in five different masses and
catered for two huge dinner dances in the evening Her Maiesty
was entertained in Aliwal Barracks mess and lunched with
thirty—two Officers and guests. She attended a childrens’ fete
in the afternoon and left by helicopter shortly after 4 pmi
The weekend was taken up with a service in the Garrison
Church, to lay up the old Guidons, and the annual reunion
dinner in the evening. These were followed on Sunday by the
journey to London to take part in the 55th Combined Cavalry
Memorial Parade in Hyde Park. The service held in the Gar—
rison Church, where the service of amalgamation had taken
