A Short Ht'xtary of z/ze 9th/12th Lancers horse sports. It is a reflection on the resilience of all ranks that as many people as possible got away to ski in the winter. There were no great racing successes but all the competitions were entered and a placing was gained in the Princess Marina Cup thanks to the leadership displayed by Major Nash and Lt Lindsay in the downhill and langlauf events, What years these had been, Activities speak for themselves but as an illustration of the movement of individuals the RSM calculated, from a photograph in his Mess taken in 1964, that of the seventy odd in the Mess in 1975 only nine were still serving of which three were commissioned and three at regimental duty. One stabilising event was the commissioning in June of the Chief Clerk, Mr Warlow, and his appointment as Assistant Adjutantt On 91h January 1976 the Regiment reformed into its North— ern Ireland organisation which entailed the disbandment of Command Squadron. Reece parties were despatched to Omagh and those from the Queen’s Own Hussars were received at Detrnold. Training continued apace until all departed to England for block leave prior to moving to Northern Ireland in the second week of May. 80 |
