the same to the end that lieth the true glory, grant to Thy
servants of the 9/12th Royal Lancers the grace to strengthen
their fellowship so well begun in this place, that with Thee as
guardian they may ever seek Thy honour and glory and the
well-being of their fellowmen, for the sake of Jesus Christ, Thy
Son, our Lord” Mr Perowne chose for his sermon a most
apposite text from St Paul’s Epistle to the Philipians — “Reach-
ing forth to those things that are before.”
So ended an inspiring service. Many of those present wore
the campaign ribbons of the Second World War and two, the
Colonels of the foundation Regiments, those of the First as
well. Men were therefore touched deeply by the loss of some~
thing dear to them by association and comradeship in many
years of service A few saw it as the end of their commitment
and left; the majority soldiered on. Major Waller, the editor of
the last 12th Lancer Journal, found an evocative verse to sum
up:
“My tale was heard and yet it was not told,
My fruit is fallen and yet my leaves are green,
My youth is spent and yet I am not old,
I saw the world and yet I was not seen;
My thread is cut and yet it is not spun,
And now I live and now my life is done.""
On leaving the Church the new Regiment formed up on the
Lucknow Square and changed to its new cap badge and
shoulder titles. The parade ended with a march past the new
Colonel, General Sir Richard McCreery, A telegram of greet-
ings was received from Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother,
the Colonel-in-Chief.
The Order of Battle and list of officers serving elsewhere are
at pages 26—21 With the greatest good sense the two Old
Comrades Associations voluntarily amalgamated to form a new
Association and it was agreed that the annual visit ofthe Associ-
ation to the Regiment should be held on the newly named
Mons/Moy Day, New pattern uniforms and regimental music
