attack on the inter-regimental polo competition The team
consisting of the CO, Captains Cochrane-Dyet and Caldecott
and Lt George defeated the 15/191h Hussars and the Cold-
stream Guards in the first two rounds but had to concede a 37
l victory to the l7/21st Lancers in the final. An inter-squadron
competition was won by B Squadron. In the racing world
Captain Bulwer-Long won the Hunters Chase at Sandown
Grand Military Meeting but Lts Sandys-Clarke and Grant
were less successful with their horses in BAOR. It was a good
year for the sailors led by Captain Perry and Lt Lort-Phillips.
They won the Divisional Baltic passage race and came second
in the small boat racing on the Dummer See.
During 1965 a Flight of Skeeter helicopters was added to the
regimental establishments Flown by Captains Forbes, Perry
and Nash and Sergeant Hartless they proved of great value
tactically and for fire control and passenger transport A Reece
Squadron was formed under Major Maitland-Titterton to co-
ordinate the aircraft training with the ground Reece Troop of
the Regiment. It was a difi‘icult year for recruiting despite the
efforts of the special team sent to the recruiting area in England
As a result of the fall in strength the Conqueror troops were
put on a care and maintenance basis until they were withdrawn
as redundant This was a British tank that never saw action.
During the year Major Charrington took over from Major
Woodhead as Second-in-CommandJ Major Kennard A Squa-
dron from Major Waller and Major Hunn HQ Squadron from
Major Andrews SSM Peaper relieved RSMJamcs who was
commissioned
Two full training seasons in Germany had settled the Regi—
ment into the routine of life and given it the time to build up
a military and sporting reputations As up to 40”,) of all ranks
changed over each year either on retirement, posting or dis-
charge the search for and training of talent was ceaselessr It
was impossible to keep teams together either in tank turrets or
on the ski slopes or polo field. This was particularly felt in 1966
on the polo field where the absence of Major Coehrane-Dyet
was much missedr An improved Captains and Subalterns team
