Early in February 1967 the Regiment received the shocking
news that the Colonel of the Regiment had died at his home in
Cheshire at the age of 601The Duke of Westminster had been
a marvellous Colonel — kind, wise and always generous, He was
a man of great charm and concern for the welfare of all ranks.

The first redundancy programme struck the Regiment at this
time and a number of officers and senior ranks left with the
threat of a further round in 1968. A sad loss was the dis,
bandment of the Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry as
a result of swingeing Cuts in the Territorial Army, although
the badge was retained by one Company of a TA infantry
battalion in Leicestershire.
The year followed the customary pattern of training, Major
Maitland—Titterton moved to B Squadron having handed over
Reece Squadron to Major Ayshford-Sanford, The Air Troop
had the distinction, on the arrival of a Chief Fleet Air Arm
Technician, 3 Royal Marine engineer, and two sailors, of being
a truly inter-service aircraft unit - something that had defeated
the Ministry of Defence {or years. They certainly looked odd
in the middle of Germany, but never udder than when they
formed part of the lanceguard for the wedding of the Com-
manding Officer’s driver. A visit by the Commanding Officer
and three officers was made to the 1st Chasseurs a Cheval of
the Belgium Army at Artilsen. A notable adventure training
trip was led by Captain Enderby to the 12th Cavalry (Sam
Brown‘s) 7 an affiliated Regiment 7 in Pakistan. Having driven
to the ferry at Brindisi the party were landed in Greece and
