TIDWORTH AND
ULSTER
The formation of the 9/12th Royal Lancers was solemnised at
the Garrison Church at Tidworth on ll September 1960. The
two foundation Regiments met there having marched sep-
arately behind their Guidons and past their respective
Colonels 7 Brigadier C H M l’eto DSO DI. and General Sir
Richard McCreery GCB KBE DSO MC DL — before entering
the building. Inside each Regiment occupied one side of the
main aisle whilst families and members of the Associations the
side aisles. The Guidons were then marched in and laid upon
the altari The service was conducted by the Rev 1’ Malins,
Garrison Chaplain, assisted by the Rev C F Perowne, Chaplain
to the 9th Lancers 1939—1941, who gave the sermon
If there was a moment in the service when the two Regiments
united to become the new one it was when Mr Malins read the
Bidding Prayer which he had composed; “We are gathered
together in the presence of Almighty God, as members of the
9th and 12th Royal Lancers‘ in thankful remembrance ofGod's
many mercies in past days And on this day, as we are united
to become the 9/121h Royal Lancers, we ask for His blessing
and guidance in the days to come, We remember before God
the glorious traditions of service and gallantry of both Regi-
ments, and we pray that with God’s help we may be worthy of
those who have gone before us, and in unity together rededicate
our lives to the service of God and his Kingdom." This was
followed by Lessons read by each Colonel and then a prayer,
based on one by Sir Francis Drake and arranged by the Com-
manding Officer, Lt-Col A J Clark Kennedy and Mr Malins,
for the Regiment; “Almighty God, who knowest that it is not
in the beginning of any new matter, but in the continuing of
