The vehicles behaved themselves for
the duration of the exercise, so that
there was remarkably little to do in the
main LAD. Having amassed a consider»
able collection of compo pilchards on
Ex Fresh Start. I brought them
out on Lionheart to supplement
the troops‘ rations. Unfortunately,
pilchard is not one of the most popular
items in the compo menu. Mutiny was
only averted by the purchase of large
quantities of bockwurst and fresh
bread. Cpl Sta John—Mosse (of D Sqn
Fitter Sect) managed to get left behind
enemy lines for several days, but that‘s
another story . . .
0n 8 Oct, the Comd Maint of I
Armd Div visited for the Annual Tech-
nical Review. This was Lt Col Le
Quesne‘s first and last visit. as tech-
nical control transferred to HQ REME
Corps Tps in Bielefeld on 1 Oct 84.
The new Comd Maint, Lt Col AG
Sharman visited Wolfenbuttel on l4
Jan 85. St. Eligius' Day (the Corps
Patron Saint) was celebrated by 3
LAD Church Sunday on 2 Dec, which
was well attended. and the end of 1984
was marked by a very successful
Christmas Draw. The standard of enter»
tainment varied from act to act, but the
food was excellent (well done the ACC),
and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Sport was not neglected during the
year. Five members of the LAD have
played for the Rugby team. and Sgt
Hughes helps to coach the football
team. LCpl Powley has played for both
the REME UK and BAOR teams this
season and SSgt Figgins plays for the
Corps Cricket team. SSgts Norman
and Figgins also play for the squash
team. Long distance running has been
the growth sport, with nine entrants
in the Hot-me Half Marathon, and six
in the Verden Marathon. Plans for
next year include the Wolfenbuttel
20km, Berlin stm, and the Frankfurt,
Verden and Berlin Marathons. I would
like to see fifty percent of the LAD
running in the Verden Marathon on 7
Sep: some are less enthusiastic about
this 'great adventure'.
Arrivals and departures have been
numerous, too numerous to mention
them all. but I would like to record my
thanks to: ASM Tonkin, off to H0
SWDIST prior to commissioning:
AQMS Gowman posted to so Msl Wksp
as ASM: SSgt Anderson off to Hong
Kong. and SSgt Mayers posted to SEE
as Permanent Staff. Detachments con-
tinued to take their toll: Sgt Thomson.
Cfn Grove, LCpls Eld and Robson
went to the Falklands, Cpl Martyniuk
went off to Belize and Sgt Poole went
to UNFICYP for emergency tours.
Only Sgt Thomson has returned to
farl
My thanks go to all the members of the
LAD. who have put in a lot of hard
work in the past year. The QM (Tech's)
Dept continues to provide an excellent
service —- they manage to carry such a
wide range of spare parts that the
springs on their trucks and trailers are
suffering! Mr Underhill is working
wonders in MT, making life for
the VMs easier in the process. we
all look forward to the new training
year and especially Ex Silver Jubilee.
with eagerness and anticipation,
SM LeTW
