Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1985
Transcription THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL
Verbier was to ski as a team and not as
individuals and this paid off many
times over as we watched other
Regiments drop behind us through
failing to achieve team results. The
collection of very good results included
2L1 Cooke's overall position of 10th,
LCpl Hammond’s 20th overall and Tpr
Thomas' prizes as Best Novice. At
Axams we had to say goodbye to Tpr
Randell who returned to camp. It was
sad to see him go. a man who became
a legend in his own time for his unique
style. both on the ski slopes and the
dance floors of Verbierl
Misfortune struck once again as
soon as we arrived in Fulpaier for the
Army Meeting, when Lt Carver had to
return to UK for personal reasons
without even seeing the course. Thus
the teem was reduced to hnlfits original
number. Nevertheless, all 3 remaining
members got results in all but one race
and by the end had greatly improved
on their original positions. In the
downhill 2Lt Cooke came 24th. LCpl
Hammond 17th and Tor Thorrias 45th.
Overall it was a very successful and
beneficial season for the Regimental
Team in spite of setbacks, and we look
forward with confidence to the new
snow and whipping through the heady
poles again.
