THE 9TH/ IZTH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL New Year and New Brooms With the New Year 8 Squadron has concentrated on individual training, crucial with so many new recruits having arrived. At the same time Capt Rout- ledge commenced his recovery from the trauma of his PQSZ Examination while 2Lts Hercock and Bailey went on a number of courses ranging (mm Free Fall Parachuting. Helicopter Handling. Forward Air Controlling to Resistance to Interrogation. With the Squadron Leader and 21C already qualified FACs as well. we now consider ourselves fully ”AIR AWARE"! Maj Burgess even tried [ll get away on some courses himself in preparation for the next Troop Training exercise. namely “Pg/sons" and “Prisoner Handling" Courses! Luckily for the rest of us. particularly the other Squadrons. his plans were thwarted! 2L! Tyszkiewicz joined us from RMAS on commissioning but left almost immediately for his Troop Leaders Course at Bovington. Troop Tnlnlng 85 For the first week troops were allowed to fend for themselves and concentrate on basic skills. The Squadron Leader remained in Wolfenbuttel, supervising the Boeselager Team. During the second week we concentrated on Squadron level training culminating in an exciting exercise versus D Squadron, the Regimental Troop Tests and tut Itit.tl‘“\tlll,ltllttlt “mutt llin‘li Imt tvsi Exercise took up the last week. The Troop Tests were unusual and particularly demanding for the junior NCO commanders and Sgt troop leaders. This gave B Squadron the individual and overall winners laurels. Troop training was particularly memorable this year for the beautiful scenery and generosity shown by the locals to all the troops.
