Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1985
Transcription in time for Troop Trainingt Maj Bill
Grant returned from Northampton to
take over HQ Son in time for a surprise
50th birthday party.
Six new officers recently arrived,
three of whom are now on their YO's
course. We look forward to two more
arriving in August.
The ‘patch' is filling up. Captain
Nigel Wathen was married in early
May while Monckton married a few
days later. the day before the Cavalry
Memorial Parade. Major Cmfton
returned from Oman engaged. He is to
be married at the end of July.
The Mess moved to Sennelager on | 1
June for the period of the small arms

fortunately a little damage was done to
the NATO Officers‘ Mess. Boughey
somehow managing to run up a four
figure bill. It would seem we have been
forgiven because the Mess moved to
Sennelager in December for the
961'. A dinner night was held in order
to return a picture of Princess Margaret
to 33 Armd Bde that had been looked
after by us since the late fifties.
On two occasions the Officers‘ Mess
had dinner nights to which the WO's
were invited. These were a great
success.
The Mess was relatively quiet in
December (Boughey and Scott had
gone). Though the services of a couple
of Officers were required to dress up as
Father Christmas and attend the various
parties that are held. ZLt Bailey was
notable, if only because his “pixie
helpers" followed him with a crate of
Grolsch and a bottle of whisky to help
him through the ordeal.
A very successful ‘French
Revolution’ party was held in the
Summer and the tradition of theme
parties continues this year when the
Mess is to hold a 'Pirate' party in July.
Barbecues became the norm at most
weekends, as did the rain which usually
accompanied them. Dinner nights,
