FHE 9TH/IZTH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMEN TAL JOURNAL Officers’ Mess The last Officers‘ Mess notes appeared to have been written as an afterthought (by the author‘s own admission). Like- wise these notes, after much ‘buck- passing'. have been written in a similar fashion. It has been a turbulent year for the Officers‘ Mess with many officers leaving, or due to leave shortly, There- fore it is probably worth recording. in no particular order, who has ‘left‘ and who has ‘arrived'. Major David Chappell. (21C. FMC and author of last year‘s notes) resigned and left in November. He gave an enormous lunch party in the Mess which was a huge success and much enjoyed by all who attended. Latest reports on his where- abouts are vague as he has been ‘globctrotting'. playing polo and going to the races. He has been replaced (as 21C) by Major Hugh Wright who has returned to the Regiment from 3rd Armoured Division. Major Robin Searby departed to go to the Staff College as a Lt Col DS. He gave a cocktail party with Major Hugh Dickens who left to assume command of the MOD. They were replaced by Majors Morpeth and Crofton who had come from HQ NW Dist and Oman respectively. Major Morpeth is living in sedate splendour in a quarter on the ‘patch’. Major Jeremy Hutchins is due to depart in July to take command of the HKVR after six months in America. Captain Rutledge left to go to Shrivenham prior to Staff College. Captain Abraham excelled himself and is now on the staff at HQ RAC, a post he is finding absorbing and most en- joyable. Captains Gavin Burnett (the Doctor) and Keith Fullerton (the Dentist) left within a couple of months of each other and have been replaced by Captains John Keeling (Fisherman and Wine expert) and Carson Black (Nurse expert) Messrs. Boughey. Scott and Scott all left in the winter. Their absence has been missed. if only because damage 61] Ham ulnt‘ystht‘lalt‘nt! bills are not so excessive. Boughey is still globetrotting and is currently in Australia where his path crossed with Chappell‘s. James Scott remains un» employable. but he is occupying his time before going to Cirencester in the Autumn by playing polo — partly sponsored. it would appear. by the DHSS! Jason Scott is something in the racing world. though how long it will last (getting up at 0430) is anyone‘s guess. Lt Col Richard Nash departed for HQ AFCENT in October and was presented. at an epic dinner. with a 2 ft high. electric Swiss Army Knife. Lt Col Robin Readhead took command of the Regiment having come from Shriveu- ham. Major Campbell Edgar also resigned last year and is now doing something important in the West Country. Captain Richard Morris (our Paymasler) is due to leave in early July He is co-hosting a party with Major Hutchins to which we eagerly look forward. In August we lose Captain Routledge to HQ SE District and in September we lose five subalterns: Bruseth. currently a watchkeeper in NJ; Carver. who is going to do something in journalism; Roskelly. who is going to sell socks or become a travelling haberdasherv sales- man; Crawshay. who will be working for a brewery in Newcastle. Finally Pritchard who will be stockbroking in London and who leaves the Army the day after he gets married in Portugal. At the time of writing Lieutenant James Martin (who successfully led the Boeselager team) is undecidedl the latest rumour is that he has ‘signed on’. Lieutenant Wilson is about to go to Australia on Ex Long Look while Captain Stafford has ‘fallen on his feet‘. spending five months in Hawaii on Up Raleigh. Captain Anthony Jones returned from his masters degree course in Shrivenham in love and with more letters after his name. Captain Monckv ton returned after six months in Belize |
