However, HQ Sqn were declared the winners overall, as Winners of the SMG Match, the deciding match in the event of a draw. Sgt Bond (now SSgt) was the best SMG Shot in the WOs and Sgts Mess. Regimental Gunnery Camp Hohne As usual the build up to the Regimental Gunnery Camp was frantic, The Squadron Leader held his own detailed turret inspection prior to the Commanding Officer‘s Inspection on l6 July. which was run as a com- petition. Simultaneously the Inter troop FMR Competition was being or- ganized by the Gunnery Wing. There was wild speculation whether an Urgent Target Shoot or Battlerun would be scored competitively during open range firing, We made a promising start in the FMR Competition with l Tp and 3 Tp coming in third and fourth position but 2 Tp trailed in tenth position. bringing us to second place overall. In the CO's Turret Inspection Com- petition however we emerged trium- phant. I Tp took first place very closely followed by 2 Tp and 3Tp in fourth and fifth slots respectively. The com- bined FMR and Turret Inspections clearly put us in the lead and we there- fore completed our preparations for the move to Hohne in high spirits. looking forward to finally stamping our superiority over the other Squdrons on the Open Range. Afterwards all ranks felt that it had been one of the most realistic and exciting military manoeuvres experienced. within current peacetime training constraints, Gunnery camp climaxed for the B Squadron Scimitar troops with a full- blooded battlerun on Range 9. probably the most difficult range. watched by the Commanding Officer. SIG and RSMI of the Hohne Gunnery School. Being first on. 3 Tp had an uneasy start but soon picked up momentum and produced some extremely accurate shooting. Both 1 and 2 Tps completed near perfect runs and were congrat- ulated for excellent performances by the RSMI on his de-brief. It was a fitting end to two weeks very hard work.
