once again but, this time pressed
extremely hard by B Squadron. Then
followed wins in the inter-Squadron
cricket and volleyball! Sadly the
Squadron {altered in the football
competition being beaten convincingly
by B Squadron. A Squadron has proved
a hard working and hard playing
Squadron. High standards have been
achieved in all activities from gunnery
camp at one end of the spectrum to
Squadron parties at the other. Sgt Reid
showed initiative in organizing a
‘cultural’ weekend to Berlin for 1st
Troop. They stayed with the Queen‘s
Own Hussars in Smuts Barracks. 2nd
Troop had a particularly exciting time
at Hohne when Tpr Green attempted to
complete “Battlerun S" single-handed,
while Lt Martin decided to fire a 30mm
automatic burst unannounced.
The Fitter Troop
Life for our Fitter Troop under SSgt
Figgins has not been easy. Troop
Training at the beginning of the year
required them to play their 'Ioker’ and
bring into use their mobile spares packs
(CVR(T) Spartans to the uninitiatedl)
Getting Support Troop back on the
road was not the easiest of tasks but
eventually they rolled again. Exercise
Lionheart proved the final test. The
Exercise was hard work at the time but,
considering the mileage covered, the
number of breakdowns was not an-
expected. Broken down CVRm didn’t
spend too long out of commission.
GW Troop
With all the changes this year OW
Troop A Squadron must surely be one
of the most stable organizations in the
Regiment. We have suffered only two
changes of personnel since forming in
December 1983. Sgt Butterfield left us
after Exercise Lionheart, to be replawd
by Sgt Dye fresh from B Squadron.
Cpl Bilyard moved to a Scimitar Troop,
sadly. taking all his expertise with him]
Both have been missed; their efforts
and knowledge were invaluable.
However. the advantages of an other
wise settled troop have been con-
siderable — Sgt Dye managed to move
in easily. having previously achieved
a good pass on his conversion course.
Party time l’or Sgl and Mrs Burteri‘ield, LCpl and Tpr Yearwood.
