HE’S THE ONLY ONE wuo's MECHMtLRLLT tNCLtNED You can tell when another training year is drawing to a close — a ‘round robin' from the Journal Editor reminds you that an article is required. l984/85 has been a busy but successful year. The LAD are now settled in Bldg 24; it‘s not as spacious as the Campbell Barracks rebuild. but I've seen a lot WOTSC. The first major event of the year was Probex in early May. Working with the Armies of two other nations was most interesting. It gave a fascinating insight of the very different ways in which they operate. No problems were encountered apart from an Engineer AVLB which refused to play ball, and dumped copious quantities of hydraulic fluid inside its hull. and on to the top square. The Regimental weekend saw Sgt Williams coming into his own. as large numbers of barbeque stands were required The weather was kind and all REME personnel had a very pleasant weekend in the company of the OCA. In mid June, ASM Tonkin took a small crew to the Baltic for a week's sailing in the Corps yachti Unfortunately the weather left a little to he desired. and several potential sailors came back less enthusiastic about the sport. Gunnery Training occupied the minds of most people in July, culmin- ating with Annual Firing at Hohne in early August. Thanks to sterling work 53 by Sgts Bell and Cohen, and their respective sections, there were few sight and weapon problems; the disruption to firing was minimal. Striker proved a more troublesome beast, the ('E Techs had their work cut out to keep the systems 'on the road‘ long enought to enable the crews to fire their allotted missiles. While based at Oerbke. Sgt Williams and LCpl Lindsltog made a new ‘bum warmer‘ for the WOs' and Sgts' Mess. September saw the fruition of several years of planning by the ‘back room boys‘: when Exercise Lionheart got under way B Sqn were employed umpiring the Queen’s Own Yeomanry and Royal Yeomanry, while A Son were detached to 3 Armd Div for a period at the start of the exercise. Both Fitter Sects had an interesting time (Stalwarts being the main source of amusement!) but came through smiling in the end. |( N I\‘I\ht“d\t‘" ,itttl \ut \\ tllmms \\llll titt'l \l) tttttstttl L'in 'l’cnguitt'. |
