Strikers Fishing Club
he Regimental Fishing Club was depleted due to commit-
ments in the 99/00 season. The 2 Div Winter League series
saw some fine skills by the 3 three man teams that represented
the Regiment. It must be noted that all these matches were held
in some instances over 100 miles from Swanton Morley and
were subsequently waters on which we had no experience.
There were some notable performances by Cpl K Rae, SSgt
(SQMS) Buckley, Sgt Bithell and WOZ (RQMS) McGann. All
of whom managed to win valuable section points to maintain a
creditable league table position. Regimentally, Cpl McKay
switched from carp fishing to match fishing and instead of
catching 261b carp managed to catch 26lbs of trout in a thrilling
match where the first 3 weights on the scales were the same???
The scales man who shall remain nameless worked out how to
use them by peg 4 and the weights improved dramatically to
over 501bs per man.
Due to the Arms Plot to Hohne the Fishing Club has been
absorbed in to the Garrison Club but maintains control of the
waters in the area. There have been a series of Regimental and
Garrison matches held on both Wednesday and Sundays on
Bredebeck and the Camp lakes. Cpl Swift has managed to win one
match and the RQMS has finished 2nd in the three matches he has
fished. Sgt Bithell has managed to win 1 in 4 and Cpl McKay has
sat it out for big carp during the matches but to no avail. W02
SSM S Cunningham has had some reasonable pike from the camp
lake, and has also helped out the Officers Mess by capturing 2 dou-
ble figure pike which have obviously thrived in their trout lake.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of the
Regiment that have assisted us in the pusuit of our sport and
encourage anyone that would like to join us to come along. It is
sport for all ages and not just the old and bold.
