The year started with a threat from the Ministry of Defence that staff at all HHQs should be cut. Ifthis were to be implemented it would have severely reduced our effectiveness and most importantly we would have found it very difficult to look after our Old Comrades and their families through the OCA and the Charitable Association. HQ DRAC were very sup- portive and after much hard work by DRAC’s staff not only were we able to retain our establishment but HHQ would be allowed to recruit an Assistant Regimental Secretary. Captain Joe Hardy has now joined our team and he will play his part in the OCA and the running of the Museum. Sadly we have to say good-bye to Mrs Patricia Hickman. Pat had joined us on 17 March 1997 as the Office Manager. Many of you will remember her cheerful voice at the end of the tele- phone when you had to speak to one of us. She has to take early retirement due to her health but as she lives locally we shall hopefully keep in touch with her. Although we managed to get some temporary staff much of the work fell on Mrs Ann Cornwall’s shoulders which she carried out in her usual willing and cheerful way. The office is in the process of being modernised!
