Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 2004
Transcription 22 REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S)
° The SSM organised (and ran) the first half marathon in
Maysan Province on New Years Day 2004. £650 was raised
for charity.
After returning to Hohne and a month of leave the Sqn prepared
for Ex Swabian Lance, a Regimental FTX in Southern
Germany. The Sqn deployed by Troop Train for 3 weeks of
excellent value training in a beautiful part of the world. Whilst
it was a busy exercise including some taxing Troop Tests, the
Sqn somehow found time to convene in a suitable location to
watch the Euro-Cup Football.
In a similar fashion to the early part of the year, the Sqn was
busy on a variety of activities. As senior Sqn we led the parade
for the first royal visit from his Highness the Duke of York and
organised a families day series of activities to rival any held in
the past. We had a productive period of adventure training dur-
ing which almost all members of the Sqn managed to get away
and learn a new skill.
We have thrown ourselves at a range of sport with varying
degrees of success. Whilst unlucky in the inter-squadron crick-
et and football, we won the volleyball (Beila Plate) and basket-
ball, both with young (not you SSM) teams. The Nordic and
Downhill ski-teams are led by and heavily manned by C Sqn
and we look forward to their results. We also lead the field in
Judo, a sport that the Regt is concentrating on.
The Sqn Cambrian Patrol Team endured the Welsh weather
(actually not bad this time) in October to complete an extreme-
ly arduous patrol. They finished and were awarded a Certificate
of Merit, narrowly missing a Bronze Medal.
Regimental firing camp saw the normal early starts and late fin-
ishes in the winter with the emphasis on the tactical and dynam-
ic as opposed to just the technical gunnery. The Squadron
achieved a great deal from this firing period with Sgt Swain at
the Gunnery helm ensuring all vehicles fired and all crews
passed the necessary tests, and more. Lt Kappler and Cpl Hall
returned the Rolls Royce shield to C Squadron after an absence
of some time and Tpr Harris won the ‘Ohhslon Cup’ (or ‘Top-
Thumb’) for flying GW missiles with unerring accuracy. Cpls
Revell and Ulliot were also awarded CO’s Commendations.
The year ends on a high with an entertaining party in the newly-
opened Sqn Bar. Hundreds of hours of evening and weekend
work (and sqn subs) have gone into turning the bar into the
envy of the Regt and we are all in debt to SSgt Styles and his
team of craftsmen (and labourers).
The Sqn has had a busy and diverse year, almost the epitome of
the ‘work hard / play hard’ cliche. We have achieved a lot and
now look forward to a period of individual training and prepa-
ration for Iraq in 2005.
EX SWAB/AN LANCE
lst Troop
lst Tp have had a Heffe successful and enjoyable year. Having
returned from the desert, the Imperial Warlords have still been
unable to breach the rebel alliance of Sabre Tps. Prominent
throughout has been the Rebel Leader, Spackcocktucus (A.K.A
Lt Panter), an international man of mystery, wanted in several
different countries. His legendary No.2., known as No.2.(A.K.A
Sgt Joynson), is only identifiable by the fact that he has only one
knee, with a knee patch over the other and has giant carp with
lasers to torture his foes. They are supported by a team of high-
ly trained war hogs, Emperor Ming (A.K.A Cpl Fleetwood),
with his pets Ajax and Warlock; Worzel (A. K.A Cpl Allen), a
man of many heads and destroyer of innocent villages.
They are held together, by fighting lst, a young band of warriors
that wander the plains of hell supporting the innocent and put-
ting down evil throughout the land. Wandering far off lands,
our emissaries, Pinkus Fozus (A.K.A LCpl Foster) and Furry
Fluffus (A.K.A LCpl Gutteridge) are searching the nether
regions for allies. The senior Rebel Troopers of ‘B0 Selecta’
Russell, and ‘Mutley’ Wykes are playing merry havoc in and out
of the Tp.
The gunslingers Newton, Robinson and Cramphorn, have
paved the way forward as they have striven to conquer all that
oppose them, from Sennybridge to the Imperial stronghold of
Swabia, they have gone in search of Princess Ramona, alas they
have only found wandering healers and hairdressers!!
Throughout this crazy time soldiers have come and gone. The
rebel alliance continues to flourish and will forever be in our
hearts, long live Lord Heffe.
