Year 2004
Transcription REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) 69
'lflH-sv. will. 'I
t last, a clear year for our football calendar. With all the
Operational tours of the last two years it is nice to be able to
write so positive about our Football season. I think we can def-
initely say this season is the start of a new era in Regimental
Football. Before we have a look at how the 2004/05 season has
started a look back at the achievements over the last ten years.
1995/96 3 (UK) Div League Champions
3 (UK) Div Cup Winners
Cavalry Cup Winners
1996/97 Cavalry Cup Winners
1997/98 Cavalry Cup Runners Up
Army Cup Quarter Finals
1999/2000 Cavalry Cup Winners
2000 BA (G) 6 A Side Winners
Army 6 A Side Runners Up
With the achievements of the last ten years, the new era has a
lot to live up to. Having said that with the skill and desire of
the new lads the above achievements are well within their
reach.
The 2004/05 season started with the traditional Inter Sqn com-
petition in September. The main aim of the Competition was to
Football
The Reg/memta/ Footbafl team
establish enough young players for the Regimental team. After
some very well contested matches, A Sqn ran out worthy win-
ners beating B Sqn 5 71 in the Final. From the Competition,
some talented young blood was found in the shape of Tprs
Keane, Catchpole, Mann, Green (young), Green (old), Arbon.
When you add this to the experience of Swain (old), Swain
(young), Durrance, Clarke, Hall, Nash and Robinson, it’s easy to
see why the future of Football is looking looking good. As a
final mention on players, I would like to welcome Sgt “Beut”
Beutell the new not so young cat.
We are now at the half way stage in the season and apart from
one slip up in the Army cup it is safe to say that we are ahead of
the goals that we set at the start of the season. The team is cur-
rently top of the BA(G) Eastern Div league having played six,
won five and drawn one. Tprs Green and Arbon continue to
impress in front of goal, with 4 and 3 goal tallies respectively.
We now look forward to a well-earned Xmas break and on our
return, will attack the business end of the season where we hope
to finish top of the League. Our main aim is to have a good
Cavalry Cup run ending up at Burton Court again (or for the
first time in most of the players cases).
Hopefully I will be writing the next journal notes telling you of
our successes. The future looks bright in Football terms, not
just in talented young players but also in the managerial areas
with Capt Barnett, WO2 Keeney and SSgt Rathbone providing
the much needed experience and continuity.
