Cricket
WOS’ and Sgts’ Team
his year has seen the return of both the inter-Sqn cricket
competition and the highly competitive Officers versus
WOs’ and Sgts’. The inter-Sqn cricket proved to be highly
entertaining and ofa high standard, with all three games going
down to the final overs. A Sqn lined up against C Sqn; the
mighty albeit slightly ageing HQ Sqn faced the youthful B
Sqn. The weather held, and the matches progressed with B
Sqn not able to match a very strong HQ Sqn line up. The
other semi-final, which everybody recognised and acknowl-
edged as the real final went all the way to the last ball. A Sqn
having posted a huge score narrowly beat C Sqn to the post,
even after Capt Searby had hit a tremendous 50. The final was
played on the Regimental weekend, and was a hard fought
Sgt Edwards at fu// U/t,
affair, with the game swinging back and forth between the
teams. A hard fought 50 by Capt Barnett (then RSM) proved
to be the vital key and the fact that ZLt Short dropped him
three times... A Sqn came close but once again the Cricket cup
went to HQ Sqn.
To signal the end of the season, the Officers lined up to face the
WOs’ and Sgts’, with Capt Barnett having swapped sides. ZLt
Short was talked out by the heckling oer Buckley and Sgt Maj
Henderson. Capt Barnett was looking to the sky (See photo) and
the Officers were in trouble. However, some snappy bowling
from Capt Everett and ZLt Short led the Officers to comfortable
victory.
