[n the sporting line we are very pleased
with ourselves. We won the Cross Country
Running Cup and produced 5 out of 8
members of the Regimental Team, with
L/Cpl. Watts coming in first for un- Regie
ment. We were joint runners-up in the
Squadron Boxing, and in spite of only having
one member of the Regimental Football
Team (Tpr. Wilson). nearly beat “HQ."
Squadron in the Squadron Football League—
in fact beating them 11—2 in one match and
being defeated overall by one point. We also
had the only trotvp of a Sahte Squadron in
the Semi-Final of the Inter-Troop Football
and the Final of the Basket Bull Cumpetition.
We were second out of 16 teams in the
Northern Ireland Command .22 Competie

tion and were very successful in thc Regie
mental Rifle Meeting. winning the Squadrnn
Shield. Wt: also won the Rifle, Bren Gun
Pairs, the Orheers S.M.G.. and the Sergeants
Sill/LG. competitions. L/Cpl. Williams won
the trophy for the best shot in the Corporals'
Mess. We also won the falling plate competir
ttnn.
One of Ireland‘s Natiunal Sports seems to
be dancing. and Omagh produces dances as
ulten as it rains, which is frequently. Private
ears are appearing fast in the Squadron Car
Park and there are few dances within a fifty
mile radius which have not been Visited. In
fact we have not yet secured any Irish wives.
although this situation is highly fluid !
We go down [0 Castle Archdale in June.
and this move to the outpost is eagerly
awaited. The summer dawn there should be
great fun, if we have a summer. and we lonk
forward to fishing and boating, on Lough little,
with perhaps a little water Ski-log thrown in

NC" SQUADRON were lucky to find
that they were selected to he the
detached Squadron at Castle Archdale, Co.
Fermanagh, when the Regiment moved to
Ireland.
Only a short time remained before we left
I'idwtlrth, to build up the private army, but
somehow it was managed and early in October
all NO were installed in our new surroundings.
It is difficult to describe the Camp. Some
sny it looks like a cluster of blackened mush-
rooms surrounded by wire, others have passed
it by withuut realising that it was occupied.
Taken by and large, once inside the
gates. it was not [00 had and each troop soon
set too to make their Niscn huts warm and
cheerful and tons of paint must have been
used. Lack of space was the main problem and
the cookhouse became the Centre of all activi-
ties with canteen, cinema, T.V. room and
