last year's results. It was with great pleasure that the regiment managed to relieve 39 Heavy Regt of much of their "loot." Cpl Beadle had a most succes- sful day winning both the intermediate and open classes while LCpl Williams was 6th in the Novice on “Barometer." The Irish Hussars and 17/2] Lancers organized a very successful One Day Event and Hunter Trial in brilliant October sunshine. Cpl Beadle was second in the one day event while BSM Grundy was well pleased with his 3rd in the Novice section with his new young horse “Sundance.” This stood him in great stead for the Royal Hussars where he won the Restricted Novice and was 4th in the Novice class. Cpl Beadle, now firmly established as a leading light. took the very difficult open class against stiff German opposition. Moasdorf was the setting for the finale of the Season, the Rhine Army Autumn Horse Trials. BSM Grundy continued to go from strength to strength coming 6th in the Event and 2nd in both Novice Hunter Trials. Cpl Beadle was pipped into second place in the Open Championship. Overall, it was an outstanding season for the Regimental Stables. We are now looking forward to England and the challenges that even stronger opposition will bring. The opportunity for some fox hunting will be greatly relished. It is hoped that more of the officers will take up this most exhllirating and rewarding of pastimes. THE 9111/] 1TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL The Grand Military Gold Cup In the 1987 Grand Military Gold Cup, at Sandown. the Regiment was represented by Lt A G T Wilson, who. until the event. had never ridden a race of any description. In January he rode out in Capt T A Forster's yard. Owing to the harsh winter little work on the all-weather gallops was possible. so there was much road work. The first lot was always out by 07.30. on the dot. Captain Forster ran his yard like a parade ground so the transition from officer to stable lad was easy. While in Lamboum. I met Bob Champion who, as luck would have it. wanted a Jockey to ride for Maj Wilson (late Norfolks) in the race. The horse ”Turn Blue" had won races at Fakenham, Cheltenham and Sandown. A day was arranged to take ”Turn Blue” on the gallop. at Tunworth Green Farm, Bob Champion’s yard. near Bury St. Edmunds. it was agreed Angus wusari looking pensive. Supported by the owner.
