Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1987
Transcription LCpl Brown also left, but for civilian
life. and we wish him all the best. Lt
Tyszkiewicz and Tpr Sloan attempted
to leave the tp by getting lost during
the I Armd Div Regatta in Kiel. but
somehow they drifted back into port
after a week or so. to find themselves
the Regatta winners!
After a good result on Ex Rhine
Farewell. 3 Tp B Sqn. as we were then,
gave a sound perfomance on the
Autumn FTX. The new arrivals Tprs
England. Butler and Keeney were
introduced to life on exercise. and
Tprs Saunders and Bradley showed us
all the meaning of close co-Operation
with the locals. Tpr Mooney joined
the tp after his gunner mech course
at Lulworth, along with Tpr Whicken-
den, fresh from Catterick.
On arrival in Wimbish we joined
D Sqn. and soon proved our worth
with a very good result in troop tests
during the Regimental Training on
Salisbury Plain. We look forward now
to a successful year in Wimbish.

GW Troop
Just three weeks after settling into
B Sqn it is time to remind ourselves
about our time in D Sqn.
Most memorable were the ranges
and now training period which were
both cold. 50 cold in fact SSgt Day
spent most of the time on the decks,
further disaster struck when his B.V.
lead burnt out. Cpl Knight spent a lot
of time pushing the LAD Samson and
enjoying temporary attachment to the
LAB plus their comforts. Tprs Feltharn
and Lawrence joined us from first and
second tp. Tpr Ducker went on a con
sig course and has been on permanent
send ever since! Tpr O‘Connor passed
his GW course. Cpls Smith and Boulter
left in the Summer for Gunnery GW
and Crew Comd courses thus being
spared the weather and joys of FTX.
Finally. the tp left Germany on a
high note with a brilliant P.R.E. report
due to the hard work of those involved.
This ended with no ‘A’ jobs and a bottle
of whisky from the Squadron Leader.
Sp Troer
Support Troop was reformed in
December 1986 under Sgt Simpkin
with the able support of Cpl Yorke.
Our first task was preparing the vehicles
for handover to the QDG. but LCpl
Radhourne. Tprs Nobbs, Melton and
Buckley escaped to do the Assault
Pioneers course at Hameln. followed
later by Cpl Yorke. This left newly
promoted and married LCpl Pick plus
his side-kick Tpr King to do the donkey
work on the vehicles. Tpr King kept
the Son amused with his stories of how
tough life was as a child in the East
End of London. Apparently he was
forever being kidnapped and used to
decorate lawns, rockeries and ornamental
ponds.
March saw the troop in Wimbish,
with a new arrival, Tpr Roberts from
B Sqn. In June the troOp were able to
put their training together for the first
time, and produced a very creditable
result in the troop tests.
