Last summer showed quite a few
members of the Regiment keen to try
their hand at windsurfing and with
Salzgittcr See being so close, the water
proved a big attraction. Either that or
the young Fraulein: sunbathing on the
beach!
There was enough interest to form
2 teams to take part in the BFG
/' Windsurfing Championships at Diimmer
. See The teams finished in 13th and 17th

positions. Even with Cpl Conroy having
to disappear to have a baby, not a
bad effort for the first time out — the
positions not Cpl Conroy!
We hoped to enter the BAOR Wind-
surfing Championships but other com-
mitments made it impossible
During the summer several people
went to Fehman Island at the northern
tip of Germany to try open sea wind-
surfing, with varying degrees of success.
About 20 people, both soldiers and
wives. finished the season with some
official qualification which, will enable
them to sail in England where the rules
are much stricter. Maybe suitable lakes
and financial agreement can be found
to enable we surfers to continue with
the sport, and to permit others to
“have a go" in 1987.
