Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1987
Transcription trench warfare down horrifically rutted
courses,
Despite the numerous tumbles and
confidence crises, persistence paid off
IS the better prepared courses of the
RAC meeting felt reasonably easyi
After at least two hours work every
morning, side slipping the fall line
track, we managed to produce courses
that held up surprisingly well, No great
results were achieved during the three
days racing, and with the help of Lt
Zeidler who wrote himself off playing
ice hockey the previous weekend. the
team failed to be placed. At the prize
giving the team picked up one prize
for being the best dressed (trendy?)
team on the slopes.
THE VIM/12TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL
The Divisional Championships were
held again at Axams in Austria. Sadly
on the first clay the temperature was
so cold that on the mountain it became
survival from the extreme cold rather
than survival on the slalom courses.
(Reported to be -32). We were unfort»
unate to lose Tpr Randell. as he suffered
severe frostbite to his feet. Realising
the danger on the mountain, he man»
aged to reach the army doctor just in
time to save his toes. Although the
team did not finish with an overall
result, the fine performances of Capt
Cooke and Lt Zeidler qualified the
team. for the third year running, for
the Army Championships. With two
vastly improved racers in 2Lt Carr and
2Lt Douglasmiller. the team skiied to
the best of its ability, achieving the
creditable position of 9th overall. (3rd
Cavalry regiment), the best result for
over fifteen years.
The downhill ski team has re
established itself as a force in the army
downhill ski world. Hopefully with
consistent team members the 1987/88
season will reward the Regiment with
good results and lots of trophies.
