Year 1987
Transcription THE 9TH/I2TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL
As a result, on the morning of troop
tests. I awoke to find myself the leader
of a mere 4 intrepid men in 2 vehicles.
However they proved to be enough; the
best battle run of the day helped us into
second place overall. (Not bad for a
bunch of rock apes!)
Italy was “different" as the rest
of the Squadron know. Again Support
Troop came to the rescue in the shape
of Cpl “Taff” Draper. Using the
experience gained in a previous in-
carnation (Anti-tanlt Platoon RRW) he
was able to explain to the Italians how
their MILAN simulator worked.
I departed shortly after Ihis: first to
Bisley and then to Wimbish as the first
member of the Regiment in station. Cpl
Draper soldiered on with the troop and
by all accounts our handover to QDG
went very well.

After the celebrated and never to
be forgotten visit to the Italian Army
in June we all departed for well earned
block leave. Afterwards we were straight
back in the “fast lane", starting with
a Site Guard and the return visit of the
Italians. and continuing with all the
other Squadron commitments. too
numerous to mention here.
Congratulations to Cpl Greig and
LCpl Lester on their well deserved
promotions in May and June — and
furlher congratulations to the latter
and his wife Inga, on the birth of their
Lt Crewdson‘s crew; just before they finally cracked
daughter.
1986 saw several changes in the
composition of the troop — 2 Troop
sent us 2Lt Diamond while Tprs Smart
and Draper arrived from training. We
lost Cpl “Joe” Snooks to Support
Troop and Cpl “Dutch" Holland to 3
Troop — both will do well, no doubt,
in their new jobs. Nobby Clarke also
left. he is now an “Auslander” in
Wolfenbuttel — good luck to him in
the future.
Finally, the troop left C Sqn as we
moved to Wimbish and GW was cen-
tralised in B Sqn. We are sad to leave
all our old friends but look forward to
a new challenge and to offering C Squ
our support on exercises, as and when
required.
