THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS KEGIMENTAL JOURNAL Quartermaster’s Department It seems like only last year that, we were in Hohne preparing for the move to Wolfenbtlttel, and yet here we are three years later having completed the tour in Wolfenbilttel, now sitting in Wimbish. The Handover, thanks to many hours of hard work went off smoothly. The Department split into two groups for the handover with the QM leading the Advance Guard in Wimbish and the RQMS the Rear Guard in Wolfenhilttel. Both teams, although stretched, not only by miles but also by staff shortages, pulled out storemen, he can pretend he’s in the Army” We wish him and his family the best of luck and hope that he doesn’t get “darts elbow”. We have also had to say goodbye to our civilian staff in Wolfenbuttel, who worked so hard to make life that bit easier for us all. Thank you. Our line up for the start of our Wimbish tour is:- all the stops to ensure that the handover and takeover remained within the set time frame. The new real-estate to be managed by this Department is, to say the least. novel. It covers some 600 acres with the living/working accommodation tucked in one corner and the remainder taken up by aircraft runways, The runways, will, no doubt come in extremely handy for ”high fliers” and “flippers”. An interesting point from Wolfen- buttel was the fact that during the last 12 months there, this Department Major D J Warlow — QM W02 1 Fergus — RQMS Sgt Hughes — Accm Cpl Richardson — Ammo Cpl Baggs — Clothing LCpl Wylie — LCpl Green — MFO/GFA Tpr Green — Carpenter Mrs Benfield — Civil Labour Miss Finn — Typist accommodated and looked after some 1800 visitors. No mean feat. After so many years out of the UK it is a strange experience adopting to non—BAOR systems, such as the contract cleaning of offices, messes etc. Since the last notes we have said goodbye to Cpl Muir who has left the Anny. Old habits die hard for although he has left the Army, he is now employed as a civilian storeman working with the RMP at Helmstedt. No doubt he will be after some military clothing to wear at work. so that, like most civilian The Departmental Staff Finaly a word of thanks to Cpl Holland, C Squadron. for all his hard work while on loan to us during the takeover of Carver Barracks. Barrack Damages/ Laundry LCpl Bennett has been detached to A Squadron for their UN tour in Cyprus. 35 |
