Year 1987
Transcription THE 9TH/IZTH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL
The Regimental Team with some of the trophies won during the past six years
Football
During the 1986-87 season, owing to
commitments and the move back to
England. the Regimental team was not
involved in any competition football.
Of the friendly matches played against
local German sides, the Regiment won
three out of four matches by consider-
able margins. A match against 1 RTR
resulted in a 4—2 win with goals by
Tpr Thomas and Cpl Bailey.
The team was trained most of the
season by SSgt Thompson (REME),
but due to a long spell of cold winter
weather the team had little match
54
practice outside. This became apparent
when they were defeated in the Cavalry
Cup by the lfi/SL.
At Squadron level a very successful
inter-squadron competition was held
over a period of 7 days, D Sqn coming
out winners against a strongly fancied
A Sqn team. (This result cost SSM
Neuman DM 10.00.)
There is much talent in the Regiment
and the willingness of players to work
hard leads to a belief that we can be a
force in Army football and perhaps
even “lift" the coveted Cavalry Cup in
the not too distant future.
Having run the Regimental Football
team for the last 4 seasons, 1 would like
to thank all the players who have
supported rue and worked so hard
when representing the Regiment on the
football field. A special thanks must
also be given to W02 (RQMS) Fergus,
LCpl Leonard and LCpl Percival for
giving up their time, often at short
notice, to referee.
