A Squadron .,,
The Squadron commenced the year ‘
Troop Training in Baden Wurtemburg
in Southern Germany. The highlight
was a weekend escape and evasion
exercise organised by Maj Crofton and 4t-
SSM Neumann. All enjoyed the fun,
both hunters and escapersi The local
GCP and people became involved as
hunters and harbourers respectively,
Many of the POWs were caught in
ambushes in the early hours of the last
day as they left Pubs and paid off taxi
fares.
In June the Squadron enjoyed two
weeks block leave shortly followed by
lessons in tent erecting, catering, “wait»
ering" and as harmen, when we
organised and ran the Bad Harzburg
lunch tent. A great deal of effort was
put in over several weeks to make the
party a success. Two Troop ran a very
successful Pimm’s tent, using Coke Ex LeapingLancer
when the Lemonade ran out. The locals
didn‘t notice the difference! T
Three Troop were shortly dispatched
on Exercise Eiffel Tower to assist
RMAS on their final exercisei Both the
troop and the Officer Cadets were 'P
bemused by each other. Cpl Corbin
was mistaken for a foreign student
regularly, and did a good imitation of
the Troop Leader’s bearer at Orders
Groups. The highlight was acting as
the heliborne hunter force on the escape
and evasion exercise. Sgt Shipley and
Tpr Hannabuss proved very adept as
POW catchers/hatterers.
During the summer most of the
troops were able to escape from
Wolfenbuttel on minor adventure
training exercises, Same spent their
time windsurfing and waterskiing.
others leapt out of aircraft on Exercise
Leaping Lancer, Cpl Reynolds and Cpl
Smith proved so adept at parachuting,
they even managed to hold hands on
the way down.
