Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1987
Transcription lst Troop
The training year started as usual
with troop tests in Bavaria, We think
we were doing very well until heavily
penalised {or dirty brake lights (1)
during the recce patrol — an injustice
that caused Tprs Pegg 49 and Davies
to embark on a “dirty protest" for
the rest of the exercise. Despite this
unforeseen hiccup we still managed a
creditable fifth.
On return to Wolfenbiittel there
were many new faces. Cpl Pearce
finally returned from jogging round
the Harz. Tprs Whetton and Lowe
arrived from the factory. LCpl Wright
got married on 27 June — Tpr Galloway
hopes to celebrate the anniversary of

this event the same way that he celebrated
the wedding. The rest of us hope not.
Before long our thoughts turned to
England and Sgt Chapman was seen
casting imaginary flies on a particularly
imaginary Rutland water. At about
the same time LCpl Yorke arrived
from SHQ. saying how very much he
missed being Major Morpeth’s operator.
Now we are back in UK there have
been more changes. Sgt Chapman has
been detached to A Squadron for the
Cyprus tour together with Tpr Davies,
who follows him everywhere, largly

in Canada saving money to run his

Sgt Collins. Cpl Crafts and Tpr Beasley
have all arrived. Only the rock of I
Troop, Lt Crewdson. remains, seemingly
forever. As an afternote, Sgt Pearce
(since departed to SHQ) has been seen
buying toys for his new son.
