THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL Cross Country Running 7/22 Bde League started in October 86 with the first race at Verden, Unfortunately, with most of the Regi- ment on exercise. the team only managed to finish 10th. In the next league race at Falling- bostel. where the regiment was able to put out its strongest team, we finished 2nd. behind close rivals l ADSR. The 3rd race at Soltau saw Sgt Andrews drop out because of injury but the team still finishing a strong 2nd We then trained hard for the next race, a ‘home‘ run at Wolfenhllttelr Most people managed to improve on previous positions so we finished in lst place The team showed their depth as the ‘3‘ team finished 4th. Determined not to come 2nd to l ADSR again the team stormed home lst in the 5th race at Celle with a record The Cross Country Team 1986/87 3] points. The ‘3’ team finished 3rd. Back to Fallingbostel for the 6th race where another lst position put us level with l ADSR at the head of the league. Hohne was the setting for the 7th race over an imaginative course using the ski—slope and through the camp area. Both A & B teams packing together well finished lst and 51h. Going into the final league race, again at Verden. the team raced with the knowledge that they couldn’t really lose but. still ran hard to finish lst. the ‘3’ team again doing well to finish in 4th position. So the league title was taken from 1 ADSR, for the first time in 9 years Individually Tpr Young and Sgt Andrews finished 2nd and 3rd respectively over- all. The final race for the regiment was the RAC (G) lnter Unit Cup, 13 teams taking part. at Fallingbostel. The team ramped home to a decisive victory.
