Regiment 9th/12th Lancers
Year 1987
Transcription the Band wives got tea services and
porcelein for Christmas.
Alter Berlin it was back to camp
for Rear Party duties intertwined with
more concerts and marching displays.
At this point the Bandmaster departed
for the UK to sit his psm exams leaving
the BSM in charge; his first job being a
marching display at the Stadthalle in
Braunshweig. Unfortunately there
wasn’t room to “swing a cat,” TV
cameras in the middle of the floor
didn‘t help.
With a hastily rearranged display
we did the job. It was then that we
noticed the BSM posing for the cameras
throughout the act: to this day he
denies the lactr We have yet to see the
programme on the “box” to prove
the point.
Just a few Kilometres to the next
function. the Hannover Horse Show.
Three days playing for this international
event and once again the television
cameras were present, No point in
mentioning who was at the front of the
Band!
We managed to find a clear night
between jobs for a Social and used the
occasion to present the Band Squash
Tournament trophies. Congratulations
to SSgt McGauley on topping the ladder
also to Bdsm Morfill G for winning the
knockout. The prizes were presented
by Mrs Short, who we would like to
thank, The Band was also involved in
the Regimental inter Squadron Hockey
Competition representing HQ Squadron.
SSgt McGauley. our wily old cam-
paigner. for the third successive year,
took his team to a well deserved victory
over all other Squadrons, Members of
the Hockey Team were: 855! B McGauley
Cpl Clark, Cpl Woodin. Bdsm Gostage,
Bdsm Mort‘ill G. Bdsm Morfill N, Bdsm
Park, Capt Duncan. Capt Simpson,
Tpr Leonard and Cpl Harrison,
It was now time to start packing our
instruments for the move to Wimbish;
the Band once again handling the
Regiment’s MFO on both sides of the
"Water." Now as the Regiment is in
station at Wimhish another chapter of
THE 9TH.’lZTH ROYAL LANCERS REGIMENTAL JOURNAL
the life of the Band comes to a close.
During the year we said goodbye to
Bdsm Coggles who returned to civilian
life. We all will miss his character and
sense of humour, we want to wish him
and his family all the best for the
future.
Bdsm Russell and Bdsm Egerton
finally took the plunge: both got
married. Into the Band. from training
at Catterick came Bdsms Park and
Sale. from the Royal Military School
of Music Bdsm Long.
We would also like to welcome Major
Short as our new Band President, He
took over from Major Wright on the
latter’s retirement.
