Regimental Awards and Prizes 2007
1. The Peto Cup.
The Peto Cup is named in memory of the late Brigadier Sir
Christopher Henry Maxwell Peto, 3rd Baronet of Barnstable
who served with the 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers between 1915
and 1945 seeing service in two World Wars. The Peto Cup was
first presented to the Regiment in 1925; the first recorded victo-
ry going to HQ Wing in 1935.
The victors in 2007 were C Squadron.
2. The Cpl Train Cup.
The Cpl Train Cup is named in memory of Cpl ‘Chuff’ Train
who died while training in America in 2006. The Cpl Train Cup
is a newly established prize for the winners of the annual Offrs
and SNCOs versus the JNCOs and Tprs rugby match.
The victors in 2007 were the JNCOs and Tprs.
3. The Association Football Cup.
The Association Football Cup is a newly established prize for
the winners of the annual JNCOs vs Tprs football match.
The victors in 2007 were the Tprs.
4. The Goojerat Cup.
The Goojerat Cup is a newly established prize for the winners of
the annual Offrs vs SNCOs football match.
The victors in 2007 were the SNCOs.
5. Brigade Skill at Arms Meet.
The Regiment won the 2007 7th Armoured Brigade Skill at
Arms Meet, beating off fierce competition from 3 Infantry
Battalions as well as other, much larger Units 26 Hams took
part. The Regiment was awarded the following prizes:

The Henry Whitehead Cup
Best Shot Roberts Cup - LCpl Mann
Best Shot Rouperle Cup - LCpl Perry
Best Shot Henry Whitehead Cup - LCpl Perry

6. Regimental Retention Prizes.
Regimental Retention Prizes is a new award instituted to
encourage positive and proactive and attitudes towards reten-
tion within the Regiment. They are available to individuals or
groups. This year C Squadron have retained four soldiers and
encouraged another to remain in the Army for a further six
months. They have done this by positive means with each indi-
vidual quoting, among other reasons for remaining, the cama-
raderie and positive attitude of all soldiers within the squadron.
The work hard, play hard ethos in BATUS was also highlighted.
The first Regimental Retention Prize was awarded to C
Squadron.
7. Commanding Officer’s Commendations.
‘A certificate presented to a regimental or attached arm soldier
who has performed over and above what is expected of his/her
rank and profession both in and out of working hours.’
Commanding Officer’s Commendations for 2007 were awarded
to the following:
a. Sgt Burton (REME).
b. Sgt Mawhinney.
c. Sgt Potter
d. Cpl Gallagher.
e. Tpr Wood
