53 REGIMENTAL JOURNAL OF THE 9TH/12TH ROYAL LANCERS (PRINCE OF WALES’S) Regimental Sport egimental, Wednesday afternoon Sports parades are back! They are popularwith all and start with a CO’s parade, with a variety of sports available for all ranks. The major sports such as rugby, football and hockey are well supported and additional filn activities, such as bowling, snow boarding and clay pigeon shooting have all been financially supported. With the Peto cup up for grabs from HQ Sqn, boxing training is also thriving (47 Team achievements boxers) and it must deserve a boxing club filll time 7 OIC Boxing? Without spoiling the OICs of each sport the opportunity to beat their chest over achievements this year, I would like to take the opportunity to quickly glance over a few creditable performanc- es from both Team and individual. Individual achievements Alpine RAC RAC ~~ Slalom lst Capt Ed Short Sknng Super G lst 2nd Downhill Down Hill 2nd Went on to DIV RAC Pos 2nd 9th and 12th in Super G and Downhill DIV Moved on to ARMY Super G 3rd 10th and 12th in Super G and Downhill ARMY Super G 2nd Overall Pos 4th Nordic Mixed results used for the development and Tpr Clarke C Squadron started in the novice Skiing experience category produced performances well up the standard to qualify for the Army Championships. Subsequently selected for the GB youth development squad and spent 3 months away training during the summer. Sailing Offshore sailing team skippered by Lt Ed Stiles and Qualified the following: crewed by Maj Toby Lyle, Lt Jules Barker, LCpl One Commercial Yacht Master Browne and Tpr Graham came 2nd in the RAC One Coastal Skipper Sailing Regatta at Kiel. One Day Skipper And 8 Competent Crew Football Cavalry Cup Sgt Hall 7 RAC Beat the RDG 4 -2 in first round Tpr Goold 7 RAC Lost 1- to QDG (Eventual Finalists) Tpr Hobson 7 RAC and Jnr ARMY BA(G) League 5th BA(G) Cup Lost in Semi Final to 32 Engrs Rugby Won First Rd BA(G) Cup v 207 Sigs Lost 2nd Rd v RAC QRH hard fought match Lt Nick Vye both League and Union Tpr Tawaketini ARMY Tpr Tawaketini Rugby League Academy LCpl Tye U23 Academy Tpr Clowes and Lt Ed Harden scouted for Army Academy New RAC hopefuls Tpr Gelder LCpl Smith Tpr Griffiths Volleyball Inter Squadron Biela Plate won by HQ Squadron Hockey Runners Up in BA(G) Cup, losing to eventual Capt Ed Short represented the Combined Services Army Champions and Army Men’s Teams And finally LCpl ‘Smokey’ Bacon who has been selected for the Combined Services Judo Squad in December, but with his entry into the Peto Cup for HQ Squadron at the same time his Regimental Loyalties prevailed 7 who said young soldiers of today are any different from their past brothers?
