Motor Transport Troop
Yet another year has passed and MT Troop continues to tick
over in a pleasant and hard working environment. 2002 has
been a year of many changes within the department, starting
with the decentralisation of the troop in January, when we said
farewell to Tpr (now LCpl) “Chad” Carroll, LCpl “Fern”
Hancock, and Tprs “Tigger” Bailess and “Sweaty” Billings, who
have now rejoined their respective Squadrons and Cpl Terry
Coles who was posted back to the UK on promotion.
The majority of the Troop has enjoyed the BATUS experience
this year, ranging in length of tour from 3 months, to LCpl “I’ll
sort myself out a quiet little number” Hale who managed the
filll 9 months. The prairie was as challenging as ever, the
diverse weather and road conditions ensured that driving skills
were constantly being tested. The endless journeys up and
down the Rattlesnake Road (Road ?) ofMedMan l was cut short
by the introduction of the MTWO W02 Dave Baghurst and his
trusty sidekick Tpr Bobby ( the shopkeeper) Stoker, braving the
elements to run the SQMS store at OI’FOR Village. Hopefully
most of the BATUS personnel managed to get in some quality
time either on one of the adventurous training packages or trav-
elling around Canada and America.
Unfortunately someone had to remain behind and Sgt Andy
Webb, Cpl Andy Joynson and Tpr Tim Daisley kept the home
fires burning back in sunny Hohne, doing the everyday mun-
dane tasks of vehicle inspections and all the “fast ball” arrange-
ments for those travelling back and forth from BATUS.
At the end of September it was good to see the Troop reunited
safely back in Germany, although little did we know of the
changes that we would undergo in the following months.
LCpls Tim Daisley and “Smudge” Smith have been posted back
to the UK on promotion and we wish them all the Best for the
future. LCpl Hale has now departed to sample the delights of
the SQMS department and LCpl Stoker has moved to A Sqn on
promotion. We welcome the arrival of Capt Stuart McGann as
the new MTO and Cpl Frank Skinner as the Servicing NCO.
Congratulations go to Sgt Joynson and Cpl Robertson on their
well-earned promotions. LCpl Harry Harrison continues to be
our stalwart down at the Driver Training Centre. MT Troop has
now been reformed to its correct establishment and to join LCpl
Dave Bloom and Tprs “Camps” Campsall and Jay Herbert we
welcome to the fold Tprs Chorleton (again), O’Sullivan, Cook
and Brown.
The forthcoming year is going to start at a running pace for the
Troop, with a lot of new faces taking up new appointments and
I am confident that the Troop will rise to the challenge and be
as committed as ever in its support of the Regiment.

Regimental Welfare Office
he Regimental Welfare Office has been very busy over the
last year and has seen a complete change of staff during this
time. First out was Sgt Phil Bennett having completed his 22
year service and we wish him well in civilian life. He was fol-
lowed by LCpl Adie Garner on promotion to the QM (T) Dept
and then by Capt Frank Bilyard who has gone onto civilian life
with a huge smile on his face and we wish him and Jackie all the
best for the future. Next to go was LCpl Giles Smith who decid-
ed his talents were better placed with the AGC and our best
wishes also goes to him and Meryl in his new career, last but not
least was the departure of Fran Hutton who was a wealth of
information about removals and housing as well as a whole host
of other matters, we wish her well in the UK and she will be
greatly missed by all who knew her.
In with the new was the cry at the beginning of April and we saw
Sgt Andy Pegg arrive from the Training Wing on promotion to
take over as Welfare SNCO, Capt Deny Denton on Commission
to take over as RWO in September, Cpl Mick Simpson arrived
to take over as Housing NCO as well as BM NCO in November
and the last arrival was Alison Curtis in December to take over
as Welfare Clerk and so the new team is now firmly in place to
cater to all Welfare needs of both married and single soldiers.
During the BATUS deployment the Welfare Office was
extremely busy and in total dealt with 116 cases, not to mention
all the moves that had to take place due to Op Puma as well as
the handover of Quarters on Berliner Strasse and Mozart
Strasse. There have been a lot of changes not only with staffbut
also the approach of the Welfare Office; we have donated various
amounts of money and presents to SSAFA, The Royal British
Legion, The Chernobyl Children’s Charity and Kirchrode
Hospital to mention a few. Events have been organised for
Halloween and Christmas for the children with the help of the
newly formed husbands committee, and with the Regiment’s
continued support more will take place in the coming year.
1 would like to end by saying that the Welfare SMH are here to
help you with most matters and ifwe don’t have the answers for
you we can guide you to the right people who do!

Regimental Admin Office
Once again, the AGC Detachment has had a frenetic year, with
a great many personnel moving in and out, as the commitments
just keep on coming.
No sooner had the Det recovered its breath after SAIF SAREEA
II, than the first of many new challenges surfaced, starting with
the formation of an LATF Sqn. The requirement to have all
personnel ofB Sqn ready to deploy, with only 20 days notice, fell
into the capable hands of Pte “Carlos” Atherton, who didn’t
complain once! In addition to this, preparations continued with
the impending BATUS OpFor deployment and just to spice
things up, the decision to bring forward to February the
